Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a wide range of tasks and responsibilities related to the design and specification of instrumentation and controls systems.

  • Acting as the lead I&C engineer for their project(s)
  • Interfacing with the other engineering disciplines, project management, vendors and clients to ensure a coordinated engineering design.
  • Providing input to project schedule and engineering hour estimates.
  • Participating in the development of the project piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Preparing procurement documentation, technical specifications and technical bid evaluations.
  • Sizing and selection of flowmeters, control valves and pressure relief valves.
  • Producing instrument datasheets, fire and gas layout drawings, metering schematics, control architecture drawings, indexes, alarm and setpoint lists.
  • Participating in vendor drawing reviews and inter-discipline squad checks to ensure design accuracy and compliance with client specifications, industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Attending HAZOP and LOPA studies.
  • Creating control narratives and shutdown keys.
  • Occasionally visit vendor shops to verify equipment design and witness equipment testing.
  • Provide engineering support during construction.
  • Monitor/supervise the work of junior executors and assist with mentorship and training.

Key Skills And Abilities

  • Team leadership skills
  • Proficient in MS office applications.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Experience in the design and configuration of various control systems including DCS, PLC and SCADA systems.
  • Proficient in Smartplant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Experience in oil & gas and carbon capture technologies is a definite asset.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Engineering diploma or degree with advanced knowledge in instrumentation engineering
  • Registered with APEGA or EGBC as P. Eng. or P.L. Eng.
  • Minimum 5 years oil and gas experience with EPCM background
