Job Overview

The tempoary part time Sr. Mechanial Engineer will act as a Responsible Member (RM) for Cantega’s Permit to Practice engineering for a Mechanical Engineering scope in collaboration with the existing RM. The role will adhere to the guidelines and requirements set forth by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

The position is a part-time engagement, with an estimated time commitment of approximately 16 hours per month. Additional hours may be required during onboarding, audits, or key project phases. In office time is expected to be around 4 hours per week, with additional hours on a work from home, or in office hours as needed.

The position will be for an initial term of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and mutual agreement.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Mechanial Engineer (Responsible Member) will oversee and ensure that "Cantega’s" engineering practices align with APEGA’s professional and ethical standards. Key tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing oversight for all mechanical engineering activities undertaken by Cantega.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Engineering and Geoscience Professions (EGP) Act, Regulations, and APEGA guidelines.
  • Acting as a liaison between APEGA and Cantega on matters related to the Permit to Practice.
  • Maintaining and updating Cantega’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) to reflect current practices and APEGA standards.
  • Reviewing and approving engineering work and ensuring adequate checks and balances are in place for quality assurance.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to staff involved in engineering projects to uphold professional competence and ethical practices.
  • Participating in audits or reviews conducted by APEGA as required.

  • Be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the EGP Act, Regulations, and APEGA’s ethical guidelines.
  • Possess significant professional experience in engineering practices relevant to Cantega’s operations.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
