Position Details The University of Lethbridge is seeking a full-time, continuing position as an Industrial Instrumentation Technician.
This position is responsible for providing specialized technical expertise, control loop tuning and troubleshooting skills for the development, installation, operation, and maintenance of campus building heating, cooling, humidification, ventilation, and co-generation plant control systems. Additionally, the Instrument Technician calibrates, maintains, and operates safety interlock devices and alarms for campus hot water boilers, steam boilers, chillers, and co-generation equipment to ensure their safe and reliable operation ensuring the protection of students, staff, and university assets.
The Instrument Technician must have the knowledge and skills required to conduct control system planning, design and mechanical trouble shooting duties, to optimize control system operation, tuning and control components operation. The Instrument Technician is responsible for the operation, calibration, and maintenance of numerous life safety equipment systems on campus.
This position is expected to assist the Project Management Office with project support when related to HVAC mechanical systems and components, as well as control systems and sequence of operations on the building management systems. This support includes drawing reviews, site inspections, and commissioning duties.
This position is a member of a 5-person team who form a weekly rotation for standby duties outside of normal working hours including evenings and weekends. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 08:00 – 16:00
Position Qualifications Applicants will have minimum grade 12 education and an Alberta Journeyman Instrumentation & Controls Technician Certificate or out of province Red Seal designation.
Preference will be given to those candidates who also possess an Operating Engineer 4th Class certification. Along with the educational background, applicants should have 3 years relevant experience in an industrial or institutional maintenance setting.This experience can be through a combination of apprenticeship and journeyman positions. Certification in any technician level programming certification and greater number of year’s experience are considered assets.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate their experience with heating, cooling, humidification, and ventilation equipment. Experience with installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing life safety equipment is essential.
Additionally, the applicants should possess certificates in the following: WHMIS, Personal Fall Protection, Mobile Elevating Work Platform, H2S Alive, and Confined Space Entry and Rescue.
A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $5,291.00 - $5,990.00 monthly
