Date: 8 hours ago
City: Winnipeg, Manitoba
Contract type: Full time
Solutions for Every Season We engineer and deliver precision ag hardware, software, and cloud-based platforms that connect every corner of the farm.

We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on, and experimental Electrical or Mechatronics Engineer to support the reverse engineering and instrumentation of commercial and industrial vehicles for autonomous operation. This role is critical in enabling programmatic control of various vehicle platforms through deep understanding and modeling of their electrical and electronic systems.

The ideal candidate is curious, resourceful, and not afraid to try unconventional approaches to solve complex problems. You should thrive in both lab and field environments, be comfortable working with incomplete documentation, and enjoy figuring things out through experimentation, probing, and iteration.

You will collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate sensors, interpret HMI signals, and design electrical interfaces that connect to vehicle ECUs and to the PTx autonomy controllers.

Your Impact

  • Reverse engineer vehicle systems to identify and understand HMI inputs, sensor signals, and ECU interfaces.
  • Design and implement electrical interfaces to enable autonomous control of vehicle systems. Use tools like oscilloscopes, logic/signal analyzers, and multimeters to capture and interpret electrical signals.
  • Write and execute test scripts in Python, C, or MATLAB to validate prototypes and support reverse engineering efforts. Create and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical layout drawings.
  • Configure and debug communications systems including CAN, LIN, RS-232, and Ethernet. Use Linux for day-to-day development and integration tasks including scripting, networking, and diagnostics.
  • Perform vehicle instrumentation and testing in real-world environments such as farms, warehouses, and outdoor test fields. Collaborate with software and systems teams to support integration with autonomy platforms such as ROS.

Your Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • 0-5 years of experience in a hands-on electrical engineering or vehicle integration role.
  • Demonstrable experience with electrical instrumentation, reverse engineering, and hardware integration. Practical knowledge of electrical components, sensors, and actuators. Proficient use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench tools. Solid programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ for scripting, data collection, and hardware validation.
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments, including bash scripting, networking, and system debugging. Experience with CAN bus systems and tools such as can dump and can-utils; familiarity with J1939 is a strong plus.
  • Ability to read and produce detailed electrical schematics. Familiarity with designing, building, and testing wiring harnesses. Understanding of communication protocols (CAN, RS-232, Ethernet, etc.) and electrical interface design. Awareness of safety best practices when working with vehicles, tools, and in field environments.

Your Benefits

  • 3 weeks’ vacation per year
  • Employee stock purchase plan
  • Group insurance paid at 75% by the employer.
  • Group RRSP with employer contribution.
  • 24/7 online telemedicine and mental health platform for you and your family members
  • Free coffee!
