Avalign Ltd. is seeking a Director of Teaching and Learning on behalf of our client school in Moncton. This is a senior academic leadership role ideal for a collaborative, student-focused educator with proven experience in instructional leadership, program development, and team mentorship.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in the International Baccalaureate (IB) or a similar inquiry-based model and will be instrumental in guiding the academic growth of a growing K-10 private school.

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Foster high-quality teaching and student achievement
- Mentor and guide academic staff to align with the school's mission
- Integrate IB principles with the BC curriculum
- Maintain a part-time teaching load to lead by example
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide feedback
- Report curriculum milestones, outcomes, and staff development progress
- Model and promote a positive, inclusive school culture
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families
- Support the development of school vision, mission, and values
- Lead through collaboration and empathy
- Communicate regularly with families and caregivers
- Coordinate schedules, timetables, and co-curricular programming
- Develop student support frameworks aligned with wellness-focused discipline practices
- Lead long-term academic planning and set clear strategic goals
- Oversee curriculum development and teacher support structures
- Participate in hiring and staff retention processes
- Evaluate instructional effectiveness and provide actionable feedback
- Support a positive workplace culture through mentorship and professional growth opportunities
- Oversee professional development plans and training initiatives
- Monitor academic budgets and ensure resource alignment with program goals
- Approve instructional resources in line with curriculum goals
- Promote effective use of learning management systems (LMS)
- Align academic planning with staffing and operational resources
- Ensure smooth onboarding and transitions for new students
- Collaborate with leadership to align academic goals with financial and logistical planning
Education and Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Education (required)
- Master's degree in education, leadership, or curriculum (strongly preferred)
- Eligible for a Canadian provincial teaching certificate
- Formal IB training or substantial IB experience (PYP, MYP, or DP)
- Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience, with at least 5 in leadership
- Proven curriculum development and planning success
- Independent/private school experience preferred
- Experience in small or growing school environments is an asset
- Familiarity with CAIS accreditation is an advantage
- Deep understanding of inquiry-based and student-centered pedagogy
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Familiarity with assessment and reporting best practices
- Skilled in LMS and educational technology
- Knowledge of BC curriculum and IB alignment is considered a plus
- Fluency in English, with French as an asset
