Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager and the guidance of the National Service & Safety Manager, the EHS Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs to meet our company's goals and legal obligations. This role involves working closely with all levels of management and employees to ensure the consistent promotion and utilization of safe work practices. This is a permanent full-time opportunity.
The Role:The successful candidate will:
- Develop and maintain environmental, safety, and health projects and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with provincial legislation, regulations, by-laws, and codes of practice.
- Maintain contractor safety risk management systems and assist HR with quarterly stats.
- Lead COR/SECOR audits and ensure successful completion.
- Update and present safety orientation and training for new employees and visitors.
- Schedule and track customer site orientations and pre-site access testing.
- Coordinate the procurement of environmental, safety, and health supplies.
- Manage internal Health & Safety KPIs/Dashboards.
- Provide input for H&S training certifications and HR record keeping.
- Schedule and coordinate external training and work with managers to register employees.
- Ensure annual fire extinguisher/emergency lighting inspections are conducted.
- Monitor and update the Health and Safety Handbook.
- Participate in hazard and risk management throughout the organization.
- Investigate incidents and respond appropriately.
- Coordinate with Finance and local branch leaders for Driver’s Abstracts processing.
- Assist with developing return-to-work programs.
- Promote positive employee relations related to workplace safety.
- Prepare and manage the environmental, health, and safety budget.
- Ensure documentation and retention of health and safety records.
- Assist with other Shared Services department tasks as needed.
- Participate in training to maintain performance and comply with safety procedures.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or Human Resource Management (with completion of Occupational Safety and Health elective).
- Health & Safety designation (NCSO, NHSA, CRSP, CRST, CHSC) is an asset.
- 2-3 years experience implementing and promoting safe work practices and policies. within a similar environment is preferred but will train the right candidate.
- COR Auditor certification (required to obtain within one year of hire).
- First Aid Responder certificate (or ability to obtain).
- Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis.
- Familiarity and understanding of current regulations/legislation, acts, human rights and safe work practice requirements and recommendations.
- Knowledge of WSIB/WCB/Worksafe processes and claims management.
- Strong ability to build credibility and partnerships at all levels.
- Proven record of meeting deadlines and commitments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
- Knowledge of contractor safety risk-management platforms such as Avetta, ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, ContractorCompliance and Cognibox is an asset.
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong dedication to health and safety in the workplace.
- High level of integrity, accountability, resilience; with proven ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and records.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Maintain a valid driver's license, and is able to drive for occasional travel to company branches, and for training purposes.
