Summary
Performs core processing on heavy oil and conventional core in the Routine Rocks Department. Duties include core slabbing/sandblasting, core extrusion, sampling, running core gamma, petrophysical properties measurement, etc. Position reports directly to Rocks Supervisor and ensure client deadlines are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, and bend. Must be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea.
The department provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of these materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls, follow guidelines presented during training, and be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, as may be required by the work environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must comply with Safety Responsibilities explained in the Safety Responsibility Policy.
- Maintain a safe, clean and efficient workplace and must ensure that all safety infractions are addressed in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with the Health, Safety, and Quality Management Systems requirements.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the Management Systems, including improvement of performance and reduction of nonconformities.
- Perform special projects as required or requested by supervisors.
- Perform with competence the tasks outlined below:
- ABACUS – Small Plug Bulk Volume Determination Using Mercury Displacement
- Sandblasting Routine Core
- Operation of the Ultra Centrifuge Extractor
- Small Plug Ultra Grain
- Permeability – Small Plugs
- Train to be proficient in the job functions of the Lab Analyst, Conventional Technician
- Maintain and perform minor repairs and maintenance of equipment to ensure equipment is functioning in the most efficient and accurate manner. Respond to on-call situations after normal working hours.
- Train in the core office on how to properly import and enter data to generate plots, and final data reports.
- Train to review data and calculations to assure accurate analytical results.
- Learn to perform appropriate quality control guidelines in concert with the QA/QC program that is utilized in the department to assure accurate analytical results.
- Train with Senior Analyst, Coordinator or Supervisor to conduct client viewings.
- Respond to on-call situations after normal working hours.
- Perform other assigned duties to ensure that projects are completed on an accurate and timely basis.
- Post secondary diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to interface and communicate with clients regarding the relevance, validity and application of analytical testing performed and data generated.
- Must be able to work Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, flexible to work on evenings and weekends for meeting client deadlines and rush jobs
