Intermediate/Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer (Hybrid)
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking an intermediate or Senior Distribution Designer/Engineer in our Toronto, Ontario, office.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop new designs by applying knowledge of electric utility systems and their operation
- Apply engineering calculations to various project challenges to develop complete and competent designs
- Prepare and check design deliverables, including plan and profile drawings, material selection, and construction specifications
- Prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints
- Manage and develop project estimates, schedules, bids, and engineering support
- Compilation of design packages for construction
- Perform quality reviews of project deliverables
- Network with clients and maintain client relationships
- Some travel will be required
- A Bachelor’s degree or a Technology diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a university accredited by Engineers Canada; additional engineering backgrounds will be considered
- Eight (8) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
- Experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines
- Exposure to utility standards, CSA, and an understanding of powerline construction techniques
- Ability to work in design teams and is self-motivated to perform assigned tasks and take the initiative to learn the position
- The ability to lead and direct a team of Engineers, Designers, and Drafters
- Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite
- Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel to the USA on occasion for training or client meetings
- Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Must be able to pass a client's background check along with client drug and alcohol screening processes as required
- Ten (10) + years of experience in the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines
- Prior utility design experience or distribution line work in the Ontario market is highly preferred
- Strong computer design skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on-the-job training
- Exposure to non-linear powerline design software such as PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, etc.
- The candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills in the English language to communicate effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Managerial and leadership experience is an asset
