Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Technician to join our dynamic audiovisual (AV) company. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in executing advanced AV installations, mentoring junior technicians, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex AV projects. This individual must work independently, possess strong technical skills, and demonstrate leadership capabilities to achieve project goals in alignment with AVIXA and ITIL best practices. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage projects on site from start to finish while ensuring customer satisfaction. This role is based out of the Calgary office.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
- Lead and execute tasks on large-scale and complex AV projects.
- Manage daily on-site activities, ensuring work is performed to meet project specifications and schedules.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to ensure resource allocation and project continuity.
- Perform installation and configuration of AV systems, including but not limited to theaters, arenas, broadcast studios, control rooms, and large corporate environments.
- Maintain detailed project documentation, including system diagrams, equipment lists, and service records.
- Ensure all installations and services adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
Client and Stakeholder Interaction
Act as the primary on-site technical representative for Sapphire, interfacing with clients, site trades, and project managers.
Address technical concerns and provide expert guidance to stakeholders.
Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance
- Conduct detailed system testing and quality checks to ensure compliance with
- specifications and safety standards.
- Implement quality assurance measures to maintain consistently high-quality
- installations.
Training and Mentoring
- Provide hands-on training and support to junior technicians to enhance their technical skills and understanding.
- Mentor staff on troubleshooting techniques and best installation practices to build a proficient technical team.
Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve complex technical issues related to high-end AV systems.
- Document troubleshooting processes and solutions to facilitate knowledge sharing and future project efficiency.
Post-Installation Support
- Provide comprehensive post-installation technical support to clients.
- Troubleshoot and resolve ongoing system issues to ensure continued client satisfaction.
- Deliver user training and create system documentation as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 2-5 years of experience in the audiovisual industry, with at least 2 years in a field services role.
- Relevant certifications such as AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D, or manufacturer-specific training preferred.
- Proficiency in installing and servicing AV systems, including video conferencing solutions, control systems (Crestron, AMX, Extron), audio systems, and structured cabling.
- Proven ability to mentor and support technical teams.
- Proficiency in reading architectural and structural drawing sets.
- Excellent problem-solving and complex troubleshooting skills.
- Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of safety standards and quality assurance processes.
- Commitment to continual improvement.
Other Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders, and perform tasks at height or in crawl spaces.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
