Description

Based in Vancouver and reporting to Executive-Vice President of Group Benefits and Retirement Solutions (GBRS), the Vice-President, Special Markets (SM), heads the division responsible for providing creative insurance solutions to match the needs of unique groups, currently generating annually more than $400M of gross premium revenue. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the ambitious growth plan for that division.

More specifically, the Vice-President:

  • Is an active and valued member of the GBRS executive team.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the SM and GBRS business strategies.
  • Drives the achievement of ambitious growth and profitability objectives for SM
  • Is responsible for overall risk selection and vetting/selection of iA SM partners. Builds, manages and grows these relationships/partners/clients.
  • Ensures operations are run effectively and that service levels are met, that the objectives of quality, turnaround times and continuous improvement are achieved.
  • Sets strategies and roadmap of investments to modernize operations where required to support and stimulate growth.
  • Leverages assets within GBRS and iAFG, where possible, to accelerate any required evolutions to the operation.
  • Influences behaviors, practices, processes across sector to promote efficiency.
  • Develops and manages the ongoing strategic planning of SM (in accordance with GBRS and iAFG), driving growth and operational excellence
  • Is responsible for their teams’ professional development through the promotion and implementation and concrete actions related to development and career management.
  • Oversees all strategic pillars (Regional offices/Affinity/Travel medical/Partnerships).
  • Monitors the market, creates, and maintains connexions in the industry, and looks for opportunities and/or approaches allowing the development of a competitive advantages.
  • Responsible for the selection, management and audits of TPA/TPP arrangements

Profile:

  • Recognized university education in management/administration or a relevant field, graduate-level training is an asset
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in special risks and/or group insurance, including 10 years in management
  • Demonstrates the abilities of an experienced leader who has achieved results in terms of growth
  • Excellent understanding of business development and service issues
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • A management style that values proximity with its teams, and that encourages collaboration and teamwork.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills.
  • Extremely customer service-oriented
  •  Typical hiring range for this position is from 180 000$ to 220 000$ per annum; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on skills, job-related knowledge, experience, and internal equity.
