Hughes Collective is pleased to present an exciting opportunity on behalf of our client.

Position Title: President

Location: Saskatoon-based | Travel as needed across northern and remote regions

Industry: Transportation, Logistics, Indigenous Business Partnerships

Employment Type: Full-Time | Executive Leadership

Our Client

Our client is a purpose-driven transportation and logistics organization with a long-standing commitment to economic inclusion, community advancement, and operational excellence. Proudly owned by Indigenous shareholders and Trimac, a leader in bulk transportation, NRT plays a vital role in hauling essential goods and materials to and from some of the most remote regions in Saskatchewan.

Backed by a strong governance model and a history of collaboration with industry and community stakeholders, the organization has spent over three decades building a model that blends business success with social responsibility. Their unique structure ensures that profits cycle back into northern communities, creating sustainable economic growth and long-term impact.

With a steady fleet, a strong team of drivers, and deep-rooted relationships in both the public and private sectors, this organization is positioned for a powerful next chapter.

The Opportunity

This is a high-stakes, high-reward opportunity to lead a business that blends Indigenous economic development with industrial precision. The incoming President will be responsible for ensuring NRT continues to operate profitably, safely, and with the same level of trust and integrity that has been its hallmark since inception. That means keeping a sharp eye on performance metrics, growing and preserving customer relationships, and managing day-to-day operations in a way that maximizes margin while honouring community.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the President will provide hands-on leadership and will be expected to balance three core responsibilities: operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and financial stewardship. You’ll lead a seasoned management team, strengthen the company’s bottom line, and work collaboratively with both Indigenous partners and major clients across the north.

You’ll be expected to inspire and lead a dedicated management team, drive profitability through operational rigor and strategic innovation, and maintain a steadfast commitment to Indigenous engagement across all levels of the business. As the public face of the organization, you’ll act as a steward of trust with clients, regulators, and Indigenous partners alike while strengthening relationships while pushing the organization to its next phase of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As the President, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

1. Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • Provide visionary leadership while translating strategy into actionable plans that ensure the smooth execution of high-volume logistics and transportation services.
  • Guide the organization in continuous improvement, with a sharp eye on cost control, resource optimization, and operational innovation.
  • Anticipate industry trends, identify strategic opportunities, and lead change initiatives that position the company for long-term success.

2. Financial Stewardship & Margin Management

  • Own the company’s P&L, setting and delivering on revenue targets, margin expectations, and financial sustainability.
  • Develop and oversee annual budgets, capital planning, and forecasting in alignment with Board approved objectives.
  • Monitor performance metrics and profitability levers, proactively identifying and correcting variances before they impact operations.

3. Client & Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Maintain and grow trusted partnerships with key clients, particularly within the mining and resource sectors, ensuring that customer satisfaction and service excellence remain core priorities.
  • Represent the organization externally with professionalism, clarity, and diplomacy, cultivating trust with government agencies, regulators, and Indigenous communities.
  • Act as a point of escalation and decision-making for client matters, ensuring timely and solutions-oriented responses.

4. People Leadership & Organizational Culture

  • Lead and coach a committed management team, fostering a high-performance culture rooted in accountability, safety, and respect.
  • Champion Indigenous inclusion across all levels of the organization, from frontline hiring to community engagement.
  • Ensure organizational structure, talent development, and succession planning strategies support long-term business goals.

5. Safety, Governance, Compliance & Risk Oversight

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization, ensuring compliance and best practices are non-negotiable.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and minority partners, including multiple Indigenous Nations, to establish strategic direction and report transparently on business performance, risks, and milestones.
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements in transportation, health and safety, environmental, and employment law.
  • Manage risk through proactive planning, ensuring business continuity and safety are non-negotiable pillars of the enterprise.

Qualifications

As the President, you will possess the following qualities:

  • A proven senior executive with 15+ years of progressive leadership in transportation, logistics, industrial services, or similarly complex environments.
  • Experience working with or alongside Indigenous communities, organizations, or economic development groups is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to lead operational teams with a collaborative and hands-on approach.
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and experience overseeing multimillion-dollar budgets.
  • An approachable communicator and culturally aware leader, comfortable navigating multiple stakeholder interests.
  • A track record of building organizational resilience through transition, growth, or challenge.
