Job Summary & Requirements
The successful Security Student will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of duties and tasks. Security Students will provide support to the Security Services Team, Security Technology Coordinators, Security Compliance Assurance Coordinator, and the Emergency Plans Coordinator while assisting to provide a healthy, safe environment for all persons accessing RVH.

Qualifications:
Education
- Minimum Grade 12 education and
- Currently enrolled in Post Secondary School diploma / degree program related to law enforcement, private security, corrections, human sciences.
- Must possess maintain a valid Security Guard License as per the Private Security & Investigation Services Act of Ontario
- Previous experience in interacting with the public, conflict resolution, customer service.
- Experience with and knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques
- Knowledge in Security systems and healthcare infrastructure is an asset.
- Possess exceptional verbal de-escalation techniques, certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention an asset.
- Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with Security staff.
- Detailed orientated and data accuracy with strict adherence to privacy policies and handling of confidential information
- A Security Student must have the ability to assist with physical intervention strategies in violent situations at the direction of Security, display exemplary leadership, display competency in security and emergency planning and response and act as an ambassador for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.
- Verbal and physical engagement, if required, with violent / potentially violent persons.
- Support and act as a ‘first responder’ to all emergency situations, assist as directed to support security staff as they lead and coordinate the emergency response.
- Risk mitigation for the organization through documentation and investigation.
- Heliport / air ambulance response and maintenance.
- Lost & Found investigations.
- Monitor access control / CCTV / alarms.
- Overall facility risk management from a security / risk perspective and asset control.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Ontario Security License prior to and for the duration of employment.
- Participate in all orientations and in-house training offered.
- Conduct foot patrols of RVH interior and exterior grounds and maintain physical and environmental safety within RVH.
- Conduct mobile patrols of RVH exterior grounds.
- Document patrols and findings in RVH-issued notebook.
- Adhere to Department and Organizational Standards and Standard Operating Guidelines.
- Support and assist with internal investigations regarding slip/trips/falls, allegations of harassment, assault, damage to property, thefts, missing persons etc.
- Assist with the enforcement of RVH Zero tolerance for violence in the workplace.
- Assist in the removal, storage and documentation of all weapons brought into the facility.
- Locate, report, or correct all fire hazards.
- Locate, report, or correct all safety and security hazards.
- Complete daily documentation, notebooks, reports, and shift reports
- Assist with the enforcement of Administration Policy as it pertains to identification badges and smoking on hospital property.
- Assist with access control.
- Work collaboratively with the Locating Team to provide comfort breaks by monitoring incoming calls and the alarm panel.
- Work in a safe and effective manner in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Assist with facilitating the viewing and identification of deceased persons.
- Assist with the search of missing persons.
- Provide key requests for authorized staff to allow entry into areas after normal operational hours.
- Assist with the investigation of 9-1-1 calls received.
- Assist to monitor and manage high-risk patients throughout the hospital.
- Provide staff and visitor escorts when requested.

- Assist and secure the heliport for all incoming air ambulance arrival and departure. Assist with daily heliport inspections as per Ministry standards.
