Job Summary
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Business Intelligence, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Business Data Modeler to join our Data and Analytics team.
As a Business Data Modeler within McKesson Specialty Health, you will play a strategic role in designing and implementing data-driven business models that support patient-centric programs and pharmacy operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build scalable data models, leveraging modern data architecture principles, and contribute to the development of both commercial and internal data products.
Location: 2300 Meadowvale Blvd, Mississauga, ON
Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position requiring candidates to work on-site at least 2 days per week at our designated office location. The remaining days may be worked remotely, subject to team and business needs.
Specific Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models to support analytics, reporting, and data product development for patient support programs, pharmacy services, and other specialty health initiatives.
- Build and maintain scalable, efficient data models, aligned with business logic, data governance, and compliance standards.
- Apply the Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) to structure and optimize data pipelines for analytics and reporting.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams and BI analyst to define data requirements, translate business requirements into scalable data structures, and ensure model performance and scalability.
- Translate business requirements into logical and physical data models using industry-standard data modeling tools and query languages.
- Develop and manage semantic layers and data marts to support self-service analytics and business intelligence.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure data models align with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development of internal and commercial data products that support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Create and maintain documentation for data models, data dictionaries, and lineage.
- Create dashboards and visualizations using Power BI to communicate insights and model outputs to stakeholders.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of business and data models, recommending enhancements based on evolving business needs and data patterns.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in data modeling, data architecture, or data engineering roles.
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms, including data lakes and data warehouses, with hands-on expertise in data modeling and transformation using SQL and similar tools.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of relational and dimensional modeling techniques.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
- Familiarity working with ETL/ELT pipelines and collaborating with data engineering teams.
- Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
- Experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry, especially in specialty health or patient support programs.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and orchestration tools.
- Knowledge of Canadian biopharma landscape, supply chain, physician level data considerations, Specialty pharmacy related data intricacies, and general knowledge about Canadian healthcare data related regulatory considerations is a definite asset.
