As a Personal Support Worker (PSW), you'll play a vital role in enhancing the daily lives of our residents. You'll provide compassionate personal care, support their physical, social, and emotional needs, and contribute to a safe and comfortable environment.
What You'll Do
As a key team member of our team at The Dunfield, you will be responsible for:
- Observing and reporting changes in the residents' physical and emotional condition; provide input into the care plan and implements the guidelines in the plan
- Delivering personal care to promote comfort and safety for the resident during activities of daily living
- Assist residents with ambulation / escorting
- Transfer residents as required
- Supervise or assist residents with toileting, bathing, meals and feedings as required
- Make beds, tidy suites, clean up bodily fluids of building as required
- Review memos and other communications, complete all required charting and documentation on data sheets and in clinical progress notes and provide end of shift report to the team
- Assist residents with ambulation, provide emergency medical care and respond to call bells and assist as necessary
- Ensure accurate records are maintained for "extra charges" to be billed to residents
- Carry out treatment and give medications according to the policy and procedure
- Maintain effective communication and good relationship with residents, families, Power of Attorney (POA) and the inter-disciplinary team members
- Participates as a team member in co-operation with other departments to ensure quality care of the resident. Provides input into the plan of care plan and assist with scheduling six month assessment appointments
- Complies with health and safety, sanitation and infection control procedures to minimize the risk to residents
- Provides job shadowing or mentorship to members of the health care team or students
We're looking for someone who is:
- A graduate from an approved Personal Support Worker course.
- Certified in Dementia Care Training from the Alzheimer Society.
- Equipped with a current CPR and First Aid certificate.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach.
- Knowledgeable of relevant regulations, including the Tenant Protection Act, Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority, Resident Rights, and has completed ORCA training.
- Experience in a retirement residence or nursing home is an asset.
