This role is responsible for the implementation, administration, management, and support of the enterprise server infrastructure and end user computing environment (EUC) at Sault Area Hospital. This includes the evaluation, planning, development, implementation, and upgrading of these systems. This position reports to the Manager of Information Technology & Biomed, Sault Area Hospital.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage and support a large-scale End User Computing (EUC) VDI enterprise environment, including patch management, operating system upgrades, enterprise-wide software deployments, and consistent deployment and configuration of user devices.
- Maintain, manage, and support Single Sign-On (SSO) and authentication platforms and modern protocols including SAML, to ensure secure and seamless user access.
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise systems infrastructure, including related systems, to ensure optimal performance and reliability at SAH.
- Responsible for day-to-day administration of virtual systems (Servers/Switches/Storage).
- Manage and maintain the desktop infrastructure, including hardware standards, system updates, security patches, and performance optimization, to support a stable and efficient end-user computing environment.
- Maintain and support infrastructure and medical systems, including security, email, print, and backup servers, along with their associated operating systems, software, and storage components.
- Implement and maintain security protocols, monitoring systems for threats, and ensure data protection.
- Maintain an advanced level of understanding of healthcare technologies including server, network and end user devices.
- Participate and lead process reviews, workflow analysis, and design of systems operating in a data center.
- Responsible for infrastructure based support services to the Sault Area Hospital community including Network, Servers, desktop computers, printers, telephony devices, handhelds, and other equipment.
- Coordinate and participate in the successful selection, analysis, design, planning, risk assessment, implementation, training, maintenance, support, and upgrade of the Information Technology (IT) systems by using best practice project methods.
- Provide technical subject matter expertise in developing Request for Proposal documents, collaborating with users to define functional specifications, and leading the project team through the evaluation/selection of information technology systems.
- Provide expertise in the evaluation and/or testing of data center solutions, leading assigned teams to facilitate implementation of applications.
- Serve as primary point of contact for internal resources, vendors, and users identifying and resolving issues, preparing and communicating routine reports.
- Perform audits as scheduled or requested and providing custom reports, including data and analysis of findings in a timely efficient manner.
- Lead and participate in projects aligned with the SAH Strategic Plan and operational goals.
- Provide support following all standards, policies and procedures set out by the organization.
- Perform incident resolution following ITIL framework – on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex IT infrastructure problems including network and servers, and recommend and implement corrective hardware/software solutions, including off-site repair as needed.
- Represent the IT program on local and regional working groups, committees, and meetings to advance patient care within the organization and with hospital partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization.
- College diploma or university degree in Information Technology or related field, from an accredited college.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in an Information Technology department within a health care environment or similar large-scale enterprise technology environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with enterprise technologies: Exchange, SharePoint; Storage switching and protocols (Fiber Channel, NAS, NFS), Dell Storage, Dell Data Domain, Dell Networker, VMWare Enterprise environments (e.g. vSphere, Horizon VDI, App Volumes, Aria, and UEM); Microsoft Entra / 365 and Azure Services; Imprivata Single Sign on, Certificate management, Encryption, and e-mail hygiene.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency of the following enterprise technologies: Active Directory (including Azure AD and MFA) and DNS, architecture, deployment, Group Policy management, Windows Server, SQL Server, deployment and management, DHCP, File Systems security design and deployment, Enterprise Storage, and Backup systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current security technologies – Firewalls (IDS/IPS, VPN, MFA, SIEM), and endpoint security (EDR).
- Demonstrated knowledge of Service Desk Plus ITSM change management software and IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement business and clinical solutions in an enterprise environment with current technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects in a complex working environment using Project Management Principles.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines. Knowledge of project management methodologies, process review and improvement, and principles of change management.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate IT security and controls to ensure the confidentiality, privacy, integrity, availability and authorized use of information assets.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast-paced environment in stressful situations.
- Demonstrated experience in a customer service environment with strong interpersonal and telephone skills. Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
