Assistant Plant Operations Manager – Permanent, Full-time

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Plant Operations Manager to join our Plant Operations team. This is a full-time, permanent, 50/50 split role between hands-on plant operations duties and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth and safe operation of all building systems while supporting department planning, scheduling, and coordination. This position will supervise and participate in the daily maintenance of the Club’s facilities, including HVAC, mechanical systems, plumbing, ice surfaces, pool equipment, and more.

Duties & Responsibilities

·        Assist Plant Operations Manager with planning and organizing department activities and development.

·        Assume leadership role of Maintenance/Engineering Department in the absence of Plant Operations Manager

·        Provide oversight and act as the primary liaison for the Building Services Manager, supporting alignment and collaboration between building services and plant operations.

·        Ensure all Club systems are running smoothly and efficiently, e.g., check heating, cooling, electrical and ammonia systems, water boilers, Pool chemicals, pumps and filters; monitor heating/air conditioning system and adjust, as needed; check fire panel and conduct fire alarm tests, as requested.

·        Repair and maintain Plant equipment and machines, e.g., repair/maintain all plant equipment liaise with Contractors and Repairmen; assist with ice flooding, cleaning and edging; repair vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooer, laundry machines; repair leaks in Washrooms, Kitchen and Bistro; replace lights and do general electrical repairs.

·        Assist with Special Events and Staff/Member Requests, e.g., liaise with all Departments for Special Events and assist Staff/Housemen as required with set-up and dismantling Family Fun Centre, Tennis Bubble; remove old furniture/fixtures and assemble/install new items; respond to Members’ requests re-temperature, car problems

·        Payroll with Plant Operations Manager for all Maintenance / Engineering; draw up Staff schedules weekly for Engineers and Utility Receivers

·        Assist with the successful execution of special events related to facility set up and tear down.


 Requirements & Qualifications

·         Fourth Class Power Engineer Certificate – required

·        Minimum five (5) years of experience in a facilities or plant operations leadership role

·        Diploma or certificate in Engineering or related technical field (preferred)

·        Experience with: Automated building control systems and equipment-related technologies; Ice resurfacing and maintenance (Zamboni or Olympia); Troubleshooting and repairing HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems

·        Level 1 & 2 Pool Operator certificates are strongly recommended

·        Strong customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively with team members, staff, members, guests, and contractors

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·        Able to take initiative and work under minimal supervision

·        Strong administrative, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to balance hands-on operational work with planning and coordination
