Take your roofing expertise to new heights with the City of Edmonton! We're seeking a skilled Maintenance Repairperson responsible for the repair and maintenance of roofs with all City of Edmonton buildings and facilities to ensure the safety and comfort of our citizens.

As a Maintenance Repairperson, you'll inspect, repair, alter, and install roofs and a variety of roofing systems. You will have the opportunity to mentor apprentices, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety are met.

What will you do?

  • Perform roof inspections, capturing findings with detailed records and photos
  • Repair, design, and fabricate metal flashings
  • Clean, repair or replace eavestroughs and downspouts
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on single ply roofing systems using waterproof materials such as modified plastics, elastomeric or asphaltic compositions
  • Provide temporary repairs for minor built up roofing systems using materials such as asphalt saturated felts and gravel / SBS Roof Systems
  • Mentor and supervise assisting staff, ensuring adherence to Alberta OH&S guidelines
  • Coordinate onsite roofing tasks and snow removal with in-house labourers
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on various roofing types, including shingles, shakes, tiles, and standing seam metal roofs
  • Install and remove fall protection equipment (barriers, hoists, davit arms)
  • Clean and inspect drains, screens, and drain caps; refill gum boxes


Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 10 or higher
  • 3 years roofing experience on various roof types including built up roofs, standing seam roofs, SBS roofs, shingle finished roofs and also be able to perform gutter and downspout repairs


Assets:

  • Fall Protection Training Certificate
  • Basic Roof Torch Certificate
  • Aerial Lift Certification
  • Bucket Truck Certification
  • A journeyperson certificate is an asset, but not required


Skills required for success:

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade of roofer
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work of the trade
  • Familiarity with the work of related trades such as carpentry and sheet metal worker
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to read blueprints and sketches and to interpret plans and specifications
  • Ability to estimate and calculate the quantities and best types of materials required for a given job assignment
  • Skill in the use and care of the hand and power tools of the trade
  • Good understanding of roof construction and maintenance
  • Capable to use engineered fall protection equipment as per design
  • Good understanding of Part 9 of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Guide to work safety at heights
  • Ability to communicate and mentor temporary labourers

Up to 1 permanent full-time position

Hours of Work: 40 hours, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, overtime as required.

Salary Range: $35.869 (Hourly); $74,894.470 (Annually)
