ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research Centre with an integrated group of research concentrations in Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Trials, Population Health and Epidemiology, Health Economics and Professional Education Programs. A multidisciplinary team of Health Economists, Epidemiologists, Clinical Researchers, Statisticians, Programmers, and Data Analysts work collaboratively within the research concentrations to improve the health of British Columbians with HIV through the development, ongoing monitoring and dissemination of comprehensive research and treatment programs for HIV and related diseases.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director, Core Operations, the Manager, Human Resources is responsible for leading the consistent management of the BC-CfE’s people practices, culture, programs and processes. The Manager, Human Resources will lead strategic human resources support, planning and development of initiatives to align with the BC-CfE’s HR policies and best practices, as well as overall organizational strategy.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads and manages the Human Resources team, develops strategic and operational plans to ensure HR services are effectively meeting the needs of the organization
  • Collaborates with BC-CfE leadership to achieve business objectives and align Human Resources activities and initiatives to meet organizational goals and objectives
  • Proficient in HR Information systems (HRIS) as well as performance metrics and trend analysis to improve HR business processes, decision making and service delivery
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for the organization advising senior leadership on HR best practice and issue management
  • Acts as a key leader on matters related to labor relations across the organization by providing leadership, mentorship and direction to the senior leadership team
  • Collaborates with BC-CfE leadership to assess the short and long-term workforce requirements of the organization and support the business to identify high potential individuals, as well as implement career development plans and identify professional development opportunities
  • Provides leadership, direction and general management of HR team with responsibility for all areas of human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, employee wellness, coaching, attendance and performance management
  • Establishes standards, practices and framework of policies, procedures, practices and methods for all BC-CfE departments to support and optimize a streamlined, integrated and consistent HR services across the organization.
  • Facilitates annual performance appraisal process and subsequent training for employees and/or managements and leadership staff
  • Provides direction and leadership in HR project work, including the development of new HR initiatives to address cross-organizational needs
  • Performs other duties as required

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent combination of training and experience required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation preferred
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of relevant HR leadership experience with significant depth across various HR functional disciplines
  • Previous HR experience within health care/ Health Authorities or research is strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to coach, develop, lead and manage a team of HR professionals
  • Proven experience advising and coaching senior leadership within an organization and influencing strategy at the leadership level
  • Ability to demonstrate business and financial acumen, as well as operations knowledge with HR expertise and an understanding of the talent landscape
  • Ability to align HR solutions with business imperatives
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to understand context and operational landscape
  • Strong leadership, coaching, facilitation, conflict resolution and relationship management skills
  • Strong understanding of applicable employment and human rights legislation
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skill
  • Understanding of change management methodologies
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Must possess tact, diplomacy and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent customer service focus and a true team player
  • Ability to work autonomously, while remaining aligned with BC-CfE strategies
