Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Employee Health Coordinator (EHC) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Occupational Health Services. The EHC is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of various corporate programs and services to promote the health, safety and well being of employees.in order to optimize their ability sustain wellness and perform their work. Programs, projects and initiatives include employee health and wellness promotion, occupational health, and consultative service regarding safety and injury prevention. The EHC will provide recommendations and collaborate with the development and implementation of absence management program and provide ongoing Occupational Health services support to the program. The EHC will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) case management components, short-term disability (STD), sick leaves and assist with the long-term disability (LTD) claims process. The EHC role includes education on disability claims management and will serve as a representative of the County of Renfrew when dealing with WSIB and external stakeholders. The EHC will fulfil the duties of the health information custodian within the Personal Health Information Act. The EHC will provide recommendations and assistance to management, unions and employees on related matters, consistent with the corporate goals

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and operation of the Occupational Health Service.
  • Ensures corporate compliance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Regulations. This includes WSIB, claims management, return to work interventions, identification, preparation and act as a resource in the appeals process, statistical analysis and trend identification.
  • Promote compliance of corporate STD policies and collective agreement policies relative to STD and non-occupational sick leave. This includes coordination of modified work programs for employees in the Corporation of the County of Renfrew, statistical analysis and trend identification.
  • Responsible for providing recommendations and assistance on matters relating to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Assists Human Resource Coordinators and management personnel with absence management.
  • Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-services regarding occupational health and safety. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts. Performs the responsibilities of the position consistent with the Operational policies of the County of Renfrew.

Qualifications

  • A Registered Nurse with a current certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario, BScN degree
  • Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing and/or working towards completion.
  • Canadian Certification in Occupational Health Nursing COHN (C).
  • Supervisory experience an asset.
  • Three to five years of occupational health and safety experience.
  • Proven leadership abilities combined with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Computer literacy required (word processing, spreadsheet & database).
  • Well developed planning, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health & Safety Act and its regulations, Ontario Human Rights Code and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
