The Library Shelver works under the direct supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, or designate, and is responsible for shelving, shelf reading and shelf checking, in order to maintain the collection in proper order. The Library Shelver is also responsible for providing general customer service and assistance to circulation staff, as required.
As the Library Shelver, you will:
- Organize material to ensure public and staff have access to the collection.
- Provide customer service.
- Perform opening, clean-up, and closing duties.
- Participate in the set-up required for various library activities.
Your education and qualifications include:
- Completion of Grade 10.
- Experience working in a customer service setting or volunteering with the public is preferred.
- General knowledge of library programs and services.
- Good customer services skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills to answer customer questions and collaborate with other staff.
- Good written communication skills for the purpose of writing emails and general correspondence to other staff.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to accurately alphabetize and put numbers in sequence, in a timely manner.
- Ability to work as part of a team.

- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position (i.e. Must be able to lift boxes and equipment weighing 20-25 pounds and set up tables and chairs in meeting rooms).
