Position Overview

As a Host or Hostess, you play a crucial role in creating a positive first impression for guests at a restaurant or hospitality establishment. Your primary responsibilities include greeting guests, managing reservations, coordinating seating arrangements, and ensuring a smooth flow of guests through the dining area. Key Responsibilities

  • Greeting and Seating Guests:
    • Welcome guests upon arrival with a warm and friendly demeanor.
    • Manage the waiting list and reservations effectively.
    • Escort guests to their designated tables, providing menus and guiding them through the dining area.
  • Reservation Management:
    • Answer phone calls and assist guests with reservations.
    • Maintain an organized system for tracking reservations and waiting lists.
    • Communicate effectively with the kitchen and serving staff to ensure efficient seating.
  • Guest Relations:
    • Provide information about the restaurant, menu items, and special promotions.
    • Address guest inquiries, concerns, and special requests promptly and professionally.
    • Monitor guest satisfaction and seek feedback to enhance the overall dining experience.
  • Coordinating with Staff:
    • Collaborate with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth operations.
    • Communicate any special requests or preferences to the serving staff.
    • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the waiting area.
  • Managing Peak Times:
    • Effectively handle high-traffic periods, such as weekends or holidays, to minimize wait times.
    • Implement strategies to maximize seating efficiency during busy hours.
  • Cash Handling:
    • Handle cash transactions for any waiting list deposits or reservation fees.
    • Provide guests with accurate and timely bills when necessary.
  • Upkeep of Waiting Area:
    • Keep the waiting area clean and organized.
    • Monitor and manage coat check services if applicable.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Maintain clear and effective communication with team members.
    • Collaborate with other staff to address any issues that may arise during service.
Qualifications And Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not always required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with reservation management systems.
