Position Summary

This HR Generalist role is an integral part of our Human Resources team. In this role you will work closely with the Total Compensation Specialist and be responsible for supporting a variety of activities related to compensation, benefits, pension and leave of absence. You will build strong relationships employees and the leadership team, serving as a key contact for inquires related to compensation and benefits.

Our Ideal Candidate Has

  • College Diploma in Human Resources or related field is required
  • Certified Human Resources Professional or Certified Human Resources Leader is required
  • Minimum 3 years’ recent/related experience in a unionized healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated customer service and strong relationship management skills
  • Superior time management, planning and organizational skills to accomplish competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills with proven ability to build trust at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced capability in office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and Social Platforms
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with relevant legislation (i.e., Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity, Public Sector Salary Restraint, Excellent Care for All Act, BPS Perquisites, etc.)

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Work alongside the Total Compensation Specialist and HR Team to support benefit and compensation portfolio
  • Acts as a point of contact for HR team members, internal staff and leadership regarding the process/administration of compensation and benefit practices
  • Primarily responsible for the administration of employee benefits, retirement/pension, vacation and leaves of absence.
  • Primary contact for ad hoc survey/network survey requests
  • Administrative of annual benefit related administration activities such as health care spending account deposit, overage dependent mail out and tracking, etc.
  • Investigations related to benefits such as coverage issues, claim denials, etc.
  • Investigations related to pension such as annualized earnings variances, missed HOOPP contributions, leaves of absence, etc.
  • Investigations related to vacation inquiries such as negative vacation, vacation progression, etc.
  • Development and monitoring of repayment plans for any overpayments because of employee or administrative error
  • Processing of salary step increases
  • Processing of payout requests
  • Prepare and distribute benefit, pension and compensation related corporate communications
  • Annual analysis associated with benefit renewal support to recommendation
  • Other duties may include benefit-related projects such as carrier changes, amendments resulting from changed collective agreements, process improvements, policy/legislation, premium changes, job evaluation and pay equity
