A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Mechanical Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc. you play a key role in the design, development and delivery of cutting-edge optical sensor solutions required for advanced semiconductor fabrication. In this role, you will report to the Manager, Mechanical Engineering.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Leading the mechanical design of custom sensor products from concept to volume manufacturing
  • Conducting design reviews, phase/gate reviews, and regular project reviews
  • Applying Systems Engineering principles to ensure full system performance
  • Designing and building fixtures and automated test equipment requiring integration of hardware and software for use in development and prototype qualification
  • Generating engineering documentation including drawings, bills of materials, assembly instructions, etc.
  • Designing and carrying out experiments, including developing custom test equipment
  • Using statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions
  • Developing and maintaining test documentation, including test plans, test procedures, and test reports
  • Communicating with component suppliers and internal supply chain to source mechanical and electrical components
  • Interacting with a multi-disciplinary team to innovate novel solutions for products
  • Appling build-in-quality tools such as FMEA, DFX to ensure both manufacturability and reliability post release
  • Working cross-functionally with other team members to correlate optical characteristics/performance with physical and thermal characteristics to drive understanding and development of next generation temperature and position sensors
  • Contributing to culture of intellectual property generation

Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • P. Eng, EIT or eligible to apply
  • 4+ years of related experience in design and product development
  • Strong background in control systems and automation with hands-on experience
  • High degree of proficiency in SolidWorks and familiarity with mechanical component fabrication processes including machining, sheet metal, injection moulding and 3D printing.
  • Experience taking product prototypes from conception to manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Technical competency and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and a proven ability to collaborate with team members in a fast-paced multi-disciplined environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with optical systems
  • FEA knowledge and thermal simulation/management in mechanical design

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.

Compensation:

Salary Pay Range: $70,000 - $97,000 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
