Job Summary:

The Continuous Improvement Manager will report directly to the Operations Manager. In this role, based in Mississauga, the CI Manager is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives and helping the plant achieve or exceed its World Class Operations objectives.

The ideal candidate will utilize, teach, facilitate, and lead the implementation of continuous improvement principles across the operation. Their goal will be to identify and eliminate waste while positively impacting safety, quality, productivity, and cost.

The successful candidate will be relentless in identifying inefficiencies and will possess strong skills in coaching both management and frontline operators in lean culture and mindset. Proven experience in project management is essential, along with the ability to foster and drive cultural change at the core of the organization.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or an equivalent field.
  • At least five (5) years of experience managing process engineering and/or continuous improvement functions in a heavy manufacturing environment, ideally within the metallurgy industry.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role, with direct oversight of engineers, supervisors, team leads, and/or operators.
  • Formal training and/or certification in Lean Manufacturing is required.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree in Engineering or an MBA is preferred.
  • Proven ability to plan, execute, and deliver both CapEx and OpEx projects on time and within budget.
  • Solid background in managing cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and operations.
  • Strong track record in process optimization, efficiency improvements, and cost reduction.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in disciplined, systematic problem-solving with concrete examples; extensive use of PDCA and A3 methodologies. Familiarity with Six Sigma DMAIC is an asset.
  • Proven project management experience with specific examples of driving efficiency and leading Kaizen initiatives focused on waste elimination and measurable results.
  • Deep-rooted industrial background with hands-on experience in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize continuous improvement tools and principles to identify opportunities for improvement through the elimination of waste.
  • Support Department Managers and flow paths by teaching and leading improvement activities such as Kaizen events and the development of standardized work.
  • Lead and manage the EBS team, with direct responsibility for process engineers and team leads.
  • Utilize existing tracking tools and develop new ones to monitor systems effectively and drive improvements, including data collection spreadsheets, A3 reports, and measurement/calculation tools.
  • Identify ergonomic risks and participate in their reduction. Teach and facilitate risk identification and problem-solving as part of continuous improvement and workplace redesign.
  • Develop systems that support departmental and plant goals as outlined in the strategic plans.
  • Conduct system checks to ensure established designs are functioning properly and being executed as intended; coach and facilitate adherence to sustain effectiveness. Provide daily, monthly, and annual updates on the department’s current condition.
  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders for both capital and non-capital projects.
  • Manage changes to project scope, timeline, and cost through appropriate change control processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
