About The Mechanical Engineering Technologist Role

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a technically skilled and collaborative Mechanical Technologist to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working closely with sales, engineering, and project management teams to deliver tailored mechanical solutions.

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, the Mechanical Technologist will support the design, evaluation, and implementation of HVAC and plumbing systems, while also contributing to product development and customer engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential opportunities with existing and new customers
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and related documents to generate a take off and selections for a bill of materials during BID process
  • Assist both estimating and project management teams on equipment selections, assuring it meets projects’ needs, constraints, design and specifications
  • Develop, evaluate, and discuss possible solutions with the sales team, project manager, contractor, manufacturer, and customer
  • Load Calculations: Experience performing heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations. be able to perform load calculation with HAP; Trace 700 or IESVE
  • Proactively perform product value engineering, by proposing product and system design improvements
  • Review of mechanical plans and specifications assessing if it meets customer (owners, consultant engineer and contractors) requirements efficiently
  • Assist estimating team requesting equals on projects when we are not listed as approved manufacturer
  • Assist contractors and engineers with the design of building mechanical systems such as HVAC and plumbing
  • Create, modify and maintain equipment drawings in CAD and/or REVIT models, as well as equipment installation detail drawings, to share with engineers and contractors
  • Perform heating, cooling and ventilation load calculations
  • Record detailed project information so it is organized and available to the team
  • Assist suppliers to develop new and/or improved equipment design to meet customers’ needs and expectations
  • Attend factory visits, possibly out of the country, for product development, training classes and accompanying customers when required
  • Create shop drawings and assist sales team to fill out any forms needed to start and/or complete projects successfully
  • Participate in office and job site meetings with, but not limited to, customers, engineers, and contractors
  • Assist the office with receiving and inspecting stock and equipment upon arrival and filing paperwork
  • Work with sales team members to provide customers with technical expertise and constructive feedback to meet our customer’s needs and satisfaction

Skills And Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines, ideally from a reputable local institution such as BCIT
  • Two years of experience in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of machines, mechanical components, tools, industrial robotics, and HVAC systems
  • Mechanical Systems Knowledge: Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and building mechanical systems
  • Blueprint and Specification Analysis: Ability to interpret and analyze technical drawings, specifications, and schematics
  • CAD & Revit Proficiency: Skilled in creating, modifying, and maintaining equipment drawings and installation details
  • Load Calculations: Experience performing heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations
  • Product Selection & Value Engineering: Ability to evaluate and propose alternative products or system designs for cost-effectiveness and performance
  • Shop Drawing Creation: Competence in preparing shop drawings and technical documentation
  • Experience in identifying new business opportunities with existing and new customers
  • Good interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
