Burnside is currently seeking a motivated professional to join our Solid Waste Management team in Pickering. You’ll be part of a collaborative group working to deliver thoughtful, practical, and forward-thinking solutions to clients across Ontario.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll contribute to the planning, design, and monitoring of waste management systems, including support for long-term master plans, Environmental Assessments, and strategies for diversion and disposal. Much of the work involves data analysis, calculations, and detailed documentation—so strong math and analytical skills are a must. You’ll see projects through from the concept phase to implementation, knowing your contributions help communities operate more sustainably.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Preparing technical proposals, assessments, design plans, tender packages, and project reports
- Supporting regulatory communications and applications
- Conducting site monitoring and providing training on waste operations
- Engaging in solid waste planning, permitting, and facility implementation
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet project goals
- A degree or diploma in Civil or Environmental Engineering or Technology
- Excellent math, analytical, and critical thinking skills—you’re comfortable working with data, spreadsheets, and detailed calculations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (especially Excel)
- Strong time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks or projects
- Clear and professional communication—both written and verbal
- Ability to travel occasionally to client sites or other Burnside offices
- Experience in solid waste management or with a consulting engineering firm
- Knowledge of composting, recycling, or waste processing technologies
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Understanding of environmental legislation and contaminant hydrogeology
