We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented steward + kitchen assistant to join our culinary team in a high-volume catering environment. The steward plays a crucial support role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchen and service areas, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation before, during, and after catered events. This role is key in upholding the high standards of hygiene and presentation that our guests and colleagues expect.

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented steward + kitchen assistant to join our culinary team in a high-volume catering environment. The steward plays a crucial support role in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchen and service areas, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation before, during, and after catered events. This role is key in upholding the high standards of hygiene and presentation that our guests and colleagues expect.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, utensils, pots, pans, and service ware using both manual and machine cleaning processes.
- Ensure all kitchen and back-of-house areas (floors, walls, ceilings, drains, etc.) are always clean and hazard-free.
- Safely operate and maintain dishwashing machines, ensuring correct chemical levels and machine functionality.
- Organize and store clean equipment and supplies in designated storage areas following safety and hygiene standards.
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, and organizing deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and storage.
- Remove and properly dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables; maintain cleanliness of waste and recycling areas. Inform operations manager when pick-ups are required.
- Support chefs and culinary team during event setup, service, and teardown when required.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and occupational health and safety standards as outlined by company policies and relevant regulations.
- Report maintenance or safety issues to supervisors promptly.
- Occasionally assist with setting up kitchen equipment or event setups as required.
- Previous stewarding, dishwashing, or kitchen support experience in a high-volume or large restaurant environment preferred.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices (Food Handler Certification an asset).
- Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Flexible schedule with availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event needs. Higher business levels from September through December.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor.
