Opportunity
The Thunder Bay and District Humane Society (TBDHS) is seeking a licensed, full-time shelter veterinarian to provide medical and surgical care to TBDHS shelter animals (canine and feline) and high-volume sterilization for surgical patients of our public spay and neuter clinic. This position is supported by an experienced team of registered veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants.
Location: Thunder Bay & District Humane Society, Thunder Bay, On
A Typical Day
- Performing spay and neuter surgical sterilizations
• Examining animals pre and post-op
• Performing daily care and surgical intervention of shelter animals
• Supervise the handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians
• Direct the work and provide feedback to RVT’s and VA’s in the clinic
• Limited after hours and on-call for surgical patients in the post operative period – tele-triage service is provided
Qualifications Required
- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the province of Ontario
- Be a member of good standing of the CVO
- Small animal surgical experience
- Ability to perform up to 25 surgical sterilizations per day
- Relevant employment experience in a veterinary clinic
- Previous surgical experience and strong animal care knowledge, preferably in a high-volume setting
- Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and to stand for long periods
- Open daytime availability (Monday – Friday), some on-call
- Excellent communication skills
- Previous supervisory experience an asset
