The Thunder Bay & District Humane Society is a 100% not-for-profit established as a corporation in 1994; We do not receive any government funding and rely solely on donations, fundraising, and adoption income. We are dedicated to providing care and shelter to animals in need and advocate for the welfare of animals by building bridges of compassion between people and animals.

We are pleased to share that January 1st, 2026, the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society is joining forces with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society to combine our organizations. This is a step to strengthen and grow the programs and community support services provided by the TBDHS to help animals and the families who love them.

Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director, Thunder Bay and District, the Northern Ontario Development & Engagement Officer is responsible for generating critical revenue for community-based strategic funding initiatives.

Status: Full-time, Permanent.

Location: Thunder Bay based, Remote option available

How Your Role Contributes to our Team:

  • Donor Relationship Management: Lead efforts to grow local donor engagement and revenue through cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of individuals, businesses, and foundations across Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario. This includes personal outreach, creating customized donor communications, and collaborating across teams to align on fundraising strategy and donor management best practices.
  • Community Engagement: Serve as a community ambassador by participating in local and provincial fundraising events, delivering presentations on animal welfare, fostering partnerships, and helping develop and coordinate community outreach initiatives to boost awareness and support for Humane Society programs.
  • Administration/Operations: Maintain accurate donor records using Raiser’s Edge and support operational planning, budgeting, and performance reporting related to community fundraising efforts.

Qualifications Required

  • University/College degree and additional training in fundraising or not for profit management is a strong asset
  • 5+ years relevant direct experience in personally securing donations from individuals, foundations and businesses
  • Skilled in donor portfolio management, from research to stewardship
  • Proven ability to foster relationships with donors, volunteers, and stakeholders
  • Strong public speaking, writing, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite (Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Must have open availability including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have the ability to work onsite at the Thunder Bay location, travel within Northern Ontario as assigned and travel to provincial office in Stouffville as required
  • Must have valid drivers’ license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel
  • Experience in event planning and execution
