Role description:

The Design Drafter – Civil and Drainage Works is responsible for preparing detailed engineering drawings and documentation related to civil infrastructure and stormwater drainage systems. The role supports engineers in the design and delivery of projects across residential, commercial, and public infrastructure sectors.

This role sits in our Mobility Business Area. We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today’s mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world’s growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for preparing detailed 2D and 3D civil design drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation. Your work will encompass a variety of essential tasks, including creating drainage layouts, earthworks, road designs, and utility alignments. You'll be instrumental in developing and updating stormwater drainage plans, culvert details, detention basins, and erosion control layouts. A key part of your duties will involve converting engineers' design sketches and calculations into precise technical drawings, ensuring they align with local standards, codes, and project specifications. Additionally, you'll assist in preparing quantity take-offs and provide basic cost estimation support, contributing significantly to the project's financial planning.

Collaboration is a crucial aspect of this role. You will coordinate closely with engineers, surveyors, and other drafters to guarantee the accuracy of drawings and resolve any design conflicts that may arise. You'll maintain organized drawing records, manage file revisions, and uphold document control protocols to ensure seamless workflow and accessibility. Your participation in project meetings and design review processes will allow you to actively contribute to the project's development and success. Furthermore, you will support the creation of as-built documentation and update redline drawings based on site feedback, ensuring that final records accurately reflect the completed work.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in civil drafting, with a focus on drainage or infrastructure projects
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related design/drafting software
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic design principles and stormwater modeling concepts
  • Knowledge of relevant local design standards (or equivalent)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret engineering sketches and specifications
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Experience with GIS, 12D, or MicroStation is an advantage

Preferred:

  • Experience in urban and rural drainage design projects
  • Understanding of construction practices related to drainage systems and civil works
  • Exposure to BIM workflows and digital design systems
