About The Role

Our client, a leading consumer goods company based in Niagara Falls, ON, is seeking a New Product Development (NPD) Manager to join their dynamic and innovative team! Reporting to the Research & Development Manager, you will lead the NPD team, managing the entire product development lifecycle from concept to market launch. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in product development, vendor management, and cross-functional collaboration to drive process efficiencies and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the NPD team, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Provide strategic direction and drive team performance through clear goal-setting and KPIs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally as the key R&D stakeholder in the product launch process.
  • Identify skills gaps within the team and implement professional development plans.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions and annual performance reviews.
  • Optimize team efficiency by improving processes and leveraging automation tools.

Product Development & Project Management

  • Oversee the entire NPD lifecycle using a Stage-Gate approach—from ideation to post-launch evaluation.
  • Manage multiple NPD projects simultaneously, ensuring milestones and critical deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to communicate updates and address project roadblocks.
  • Adapt to evolving business needs, making quick, data-driven decisions to maintain project momentum.

Vendor & Partner Management

  • Identify, onboard, and manage key business partners, including contract manufacturers, component suppliers, and engineering consultants.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure on-time delivery and quality compliance.
  • Continuously assess vendor performance and negotiate cost-effective solutions.

Strategic & Operational Support

  • Travel internationally to meet with vendors, suppliers, and attend trade shows.
  • Enhance project tracking and reporting through improved automation and system optimization.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to streamline operations and increase efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

  • 7-10 years in product development within consumer goods (mandatory); electronics experience is a plus.
  • 5-7 years leading teams, conducting performance reviews, and mentoring product development professionals.
  • Proven success managing multiple NPD projects using a structured project management approach (e.g., Stage-Gate). Technical Expertise:
  • Experience working with OEM/ODM manufacturers and factories is highly desirable.
  • Strong negotiation, leadership, and critical thinking skills.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., ClickUp). Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel internationally to business partners (U.S., Canada, Asia, Europe) 2-4 times per year.
  • Previous e-commerce experience is an asset.
