Edmonton Catholic Schools is looking for a temporary Vehicle Operator II to join their Warehouse Services Team at Facility Services! The Vehicle Operator II is responsible for the safe operation of Division vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies, books and furniture throughout the Division. The job delivers the arranged materials/equipment within Edmonton and surrounding areas. The incumbent may also be required to perform courier duties and assist with general warehouse duties. The incumbent works closely with the Supervisor, Warehouse Services and Storeperson when assisting on the vehicle.

Work is guided by department standards and practices; Occupational Health and Safety (OHS); Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS); Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations; Division/department policies and procedures and the Division’s goals and objectives. The work is strongly guided by the Alberta Traffic Laws.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safe operation of Division vehicles/trucks and maneuver them into tight spaces as well as the adherence to Alberta Traffic Laws and Edmonton Catholic School Division policies regarding operation of Division owned vehicles
  • Responsible for the pickup and delivery of pre-arranged materials, equipment, furniture, custodial supplies, books and mail within Edmonton and surrounding areas
  • Ensure vehicle is maintained in a clean and road-worthy condition by performing daily cleaning, and checks prior to, and after use
  • Report any traffic tickets, accidents, defects or mechanical problems to supervisor and maintain records of vehicle mileage pertaining to regular maintenance schedules
  • Supervise Warehouse Storeperson when assisting on the vehicle including delegating work, coaching and training
  • Assist warehouse staff to handle peak workloads and provide cover-off during absences
  • Assists warehouse with inventory counts
  • Resolve problems with late deliveries, damaged goods and missing items
  • Keep a divisional cell phone on-hand during business hours
  • Participate in unit meetings, special events, and celebrations
  • Checking email and divisional correspondence daily
  • Perform other duties as assigned


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Knowledge of OHS, WHMIS and TDG regulations
  • Knowledge of Edmonton and area with a well-developed understanding of road and traffic systems
  • General knowledge of the Division’s operations and the school’s programs is required
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and practices is an asset
  • Knowledge of ECSD policies and procedures is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs – Word, Outlook and the Internet is required
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license and the ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton and surrounding areas.
  • Ability to provide a clean Driver’s Abstract upon hire and as requested
  • Physically able to complete the duties of the Position using appropriate tools and techniques and the ability to lift up to 30 Kg (66 lbs)
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate trucks and maneuver them into tight spaces
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to schedule and plan task priorities to meet deadlines and manage conflicting demands
  • Fluency in the English language including both oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and good judgment when dealing with clients, teachers, students, co-workers and the general public


Temporary position for nine (9) months with the possibility of extension
