Reporting to the Foreman, a Ashpalt Rakerman is responsible for redistributing asphalt mix as it leaves the screed, ensuring proper placement and preparation for rolling. As an integral member of the paving crew, the Asphalt Rakerman performs tasks such as raking asphalt, shoveling excess material, sweeping debris, and other labour related duties to support the paving operation.

How You’ll Add Value

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Spread asphalt with a rake using efficient techniques, maintain a consistent pace, and redistribute mix for proper compaction and a smooth surface
  • Blend and level seams in the asphalt mat to minimize marks and ensure proper match points and limits next to concrete structures, manholes, and other road fixtures
  • Shovel excess asphalt, sweep debris, and maintain a clean worksite
  • Measure road width to guide the paver and collaborate with the Screed Operator for even asphalt distribution
  • Shovel asphalt into inaccessible areas and compact with rakes and hand tampers
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment and material movement during paving operations
  • Perform general labour tasks to support the project

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following: Qualifications & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience as a Asphalt Rakerman
  • Physically able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs regularly
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
