VICTIM SERVICES CASEWORKER POSITION OVERVIEWWe are seeking a compassionate and skilled professional to provide direct support to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. This specialized role focuses on delivering crisis intervention, emotional support, and practical assistance at the scene of incidents such as crimes, domestic disputes, and other critical events.

In addition to immediate support, the successful candidate will offer ongoing follow-up services and court support. Responsibilities include connecting clients with community resources, making referrals for services such as counselling, financial aid, childcare, and legal assistance, and maintaining detailed client files. The role also involves researching local support services, guiding and supporting volunteers, and building relationships with partner agencies to ensure timely and effective support for those impacted by trauma. EDUCATION & EXPEREINCE

Skills

Completion of the 12th school grade, supplemented by courses in the field of social science including sociology, psychology, criminology or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience in a police environment, victim services program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the procedures, rules and regulations related to the work.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and terminology used in documenting client contacts and maintaining related files.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of crisis intervention and follow-up

support as related to the work performed.

Sound knowledge of available community resources.

Working knowledge of court and police procedures as they relate to the work performed.

Ability to effectively provide direct services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma, including emotional support, information and referrals, often under stressful circumstances.

Ability to prepare records related to the work.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.

Sound knowledge of the organizational structure and functions of the detachment and of the rules, policies, procedures and regulations which govern the work.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to develop and disseminate information updates and correspondence.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.

Sound working knowledge of computer software applications related to the work performed.

Working knowledge of court and police procedures as they relate to the work performed.

Ability To Work With Minimal Supervision. LICENSES & CERTIFICATES

RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.

Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia. HOURS OF WORK:

As per schedule B Note T the following classes or positions are based on a seven (7) hour day, thirty-five (35) hour work

week between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m., and may be required to work more than

five (5) consecutive shifts in a week or more than 35 hours in a week without overtime rates being

paid. It is understood that appropriate overtime rates are to be paid only for all hours worked in

excess of seventy (70) hours in a two (2) week period. The seven (7) hours need not be

consecutive.

Additional Information

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing hours. This position will be required to work varying shifts, days, evenings, weekends and may be called out to attend incidents in progress.
