Sample Archivist

We are seeking a Sample Archivist to contribute to the overall operations of the Archiving and Preprocessing departments and to ensure all relevant procedures are followed safely and in time.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities

Performs chemical analysis using a variety of laboratory instrumentation. Prepares samples for more complex analytical testing procedures.

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy, quality of work and compliance.
  • Follow all laboratory safety rules, policies and regulations. Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy.
  • Archive, Dispose and Retrieve environmental and food samples as per SOP.
    • Archive water, food and soil samples.
    • Dispose samples as required.
    • Deliver retrieved samples to respective workgroups promptly.
    • Ensure that all assigned and changing deadlines are consistently met.
    • Full utilization of SAIL and LIMS to enable trouble-shooting of any problems that may arise.
    • Employs proper lab techniques to minimize risk of miss-scanning and loss of sample.
    • General lab support including sort and distribute & grinding of samples in accordance with SOP.
    • Be proactive in the identification of problems, areas of opportunity and inform the appropriate person to act upon accordingly.
    • Process email and phone call requests as required. Interacts in a professional manner.
    • Responsible for ensuring that good and safe house keeping standards are followed, enforced and sustained at all times. Maintain your work area in a clean, safe and an organized manner.
    • Always be audit compliant. Maintain training records and relevant qualifications.
    • Provide support to other members of the section.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager.

    The following may be part of duties as a defined training exercise:

    • Assist in any production efficiencies and implement concurrently with the Supervisor or Manager.
    • Participate in temperature monitoring of fridges and Freezer.
    • Generate and maintain some reports for samples– i.e. Disposal Query, Hazardous, PCB, International, Long term retain and Explosives.
    • Maintain supplies requirement – Stericycle/luger bin and waste drums
    • Assist in Preprocessing for sorting samples and homogenisation of soil.
    • Recommend SOP/ WI / CTA / FCD revisions.
    • Provide input to corrective action procedures and assist in NSC/CAR investigations.

    Skills

    • Minimum high school education or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in a distribution environment.
    • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
    • Good record keeping, strong time management, organizational skills and detail oriented.
    • Ability to evaluate priorities and multi-task accordingly.
    • Thorough understanding of the overall required processes and documentation.
    • Flexible to adapt to changing priorities and balancing workload to meet new constraints.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good communication skills (both written and verbal).
    • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
    • Dynamic, energetic, motivated professional with a business outlook and "can-do" attitude.

    Working Conditions

    • Employees are expected to perform repetitive physical work as required and according to deadlines.
    • Time pressures to meet established deadlines.
    • Changing priorities and balancing workload to meet new constraints.
    • Must be flexible to working hours, overtime and may involve working on the weekend.
    • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.
    • Physically demanding, Ability to lift up to 50lbs frequently and 50-75lbs occasionally.
    • Work requires wearing Safety Boots and working in a warehouse like environment.
    • Work requires walking, sitting, standing, bending/crouching, reaching, climbing ladders.
