A day in the life of a Sustainability Impact Manager
Business Development of Recycling Solutions
- Collaborate with local authorities and Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) to advance circularity and local end-of-life roadmap, lead strategic partnership to drive EPR Extended Producer Responsibility roadmap in Canada.
- Contribute to market sustainability/ recycling strategies, including green bag expansion, EPR deployment, new product launches, client engagement, and partner development.
- Interpret recycling data and sustainability goals to inform stakeholders. Evaluate projections and business plans to support expansion opportunities.
- Lead Environment and Sustainability Initiatives: Demonstrate leadership in sustainability and technical solutions, act as a role model, and develop sustainability knowledge and capabilities across all levels and functions.
- Benchmark and Innovate: Investigate industry innovations, recycling alternatives, and packaging options.
- Assess their potential and feasibility for implementation at Nespresso, considering other consumer product groups, Nespresso markets, Nestlé markets, and provincial/municipal recycling solutions.
- Advocate for and implement local end-of-life strategies to enhance the collection of Nespresso capsules, ensuring compliance with local regulations and alignment with consumer expectations.
- Identify and develop new vendor partnerships for revalorization (e.g., farmers, second-life aluminum use), ensuring compliance, contracts, and certification.
- Responsible for the Management of Nespresso Canada Recycling Capsule Program:
- Implementation / maintenance / improvement of Capsule recycling solutions driving optimized recycling rates and , overall program costs
- In collaboration with marketing communication, drive recycling program expansions; verify the effectiveness of the programs; mobilize teams to ensure compliance and cost reduction activities; prepare clear and compelling sustainability presentations to support the project teams;
- Oversee and manage projects and new solutions from Research and Development phase to final implementation including full feasibility and Profit and Loss impact including Capex investment.
- Enable Market environmental compliance strategy, including but not limited to Business certification towards ISO 14 001/ISO 9 001, Recycling program certifications, Corp evaluations, Nespresso Creating Shared Value in the Market.
- Ensure legal obligations in terms of Environment for the company in stewardship obligation programs,
- Drive/ implement continuous improvement opportunities and cost savings initiatives, drive down/optimize the cost of solutions / programs in conjunction with internal teams and vendor partners.
- In alignment with Procurement Sourcing teams, manage vendor agreements including participation in official tender processes
- Develop high performing teams and in alignment with the People process cycle, your role is to:
- Establish appropriate organization, including 3rd party suppliers, in line with the operational plan (OP) and international guidelines; Create alignment, lead by example, promote an open culture and our values in a sustainable way. (Sustain the change)
- Select talent: recruit and onboard people and plan capabilities for the future.
- Develop people: coach, define effective (70-20-10) development plan and assess talent, building the right capabilities for the team and for the organization long-term success (succession planning)
- Drive performance: empower and enable people, give and receive feedback, evaluate and differentiate performance, constantly challenge the set up organization to ensure its results and effectiveness.
- Recognize achievements: give and receive recognition, reward performance.
- Bilingualism in English and French language skills are a requirement, as this position requires collaboration with stakeholders across the Canadian market and/or worldwide.
- Bachelor’s degree required, Degree in environmental studies, technical, or engineering preferred,
- 5-8 years’ experience in Environmental Sustainability / Technical solutions, Project Management Operations
- Sustainability / Environmental knowledge a must (ISO 14000 environment standards)
- Strong business acumen, experience in a large organization,
- Able to work in ambiguous, fast paced operating environments
- Proven track record in delivering results with a cross functional team
- Demonstrated capability to lead projects and change management
- Excellent communication skills, with experience developing clear, concise, and compelling content for senior management-level presentations and communications/ lobbying and networking with partners across all providences
- Excellent organization and forward-planning skills
- Has successfully managed relationships with external providers,
- Relevant operational experience at Market/ Business Level such as: recycling program management or regulatory and compliance as per local requirements, Finance (budget planning, budget control, cost management, cost savings)
- Demonstrated management capability included the ability to lead, coach, engage influence, work cross-functionally.
