Richmond School District operates 37 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 22,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

The Aspen Learning Center (ALC) is located at MacNeill Secondary School. This multi-dimensional position requires a very adaptable, collegial individual to work in a specialized position.

A full-time learning resource teacher is required to plan, develop, implement and evaluate appropriate and effective individualized educational programs for the ALC. This position is based on the best practices framework for students with complex support needs who currently benefit from a small learning environment with the goal to return to their mainstream inclusive school community. Each student's individualized goals include developing improved self-regulation, communication skills, social/emotional development and foundational academic skills.

The Successful Applicant Will

  • Be an experienced learning resource teacher.
  • Have demonstrated experience and ability in supporting student with complex needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Have demonstrated an ability to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate and effective individualized education plans, behaviour plans and employee safety plans.
  • Be flexible, cooperative and work collaboratively with the school-based team and staff including SLP, OT, Behaviour consultants, and Inclusion Support Team.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication skills and commitment to building positive relationships, collaboration, and teamwork in working with parents and staff.
  • Be willing to engage in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may also be assigned as necessary in response to the changing needs of the district.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified learning resource teacher with recent, relevant experience addressing a wide range of student support needs
  • Demonstrated skills of planning, implementing and evaluating appropriate and effective individualized educational programs which are based on best practices framework for students with significant learning and/or behaviour challenges.
  • Demonstrated competence in collaborating with educational assistants and other relevant personnel for student programming and supports.
  • Demonstrated competence in designing and implementing individualized programming needs, case management and effective schedules.
  • Possess excellent organization, time management, communication and prioritizing skills.
