Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting their respective business needs and addressing all EHS related matters. Senior Managers on applicable legal and other requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring facilities maintain EHS compliance standards for COR Certifications
  • Developing, completing and filing all necessary documentation and/or reports in accordance with applicable reporting and record keeping requirements required by Legislation
  • Completing a compliance calendar for all required activities and reporting obligations for facilities
  • Developing and maintaining all environmental, health, and safety programs for Canada
  • Identify, participate in and/or lead agency inspection response requirements
  • Understanding solid and hazardous waste laws and regulations applicable to the facility’s wastes, identifying hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, and ensuring the proper management and disposal of such wastes
  • Working with purchasing and facilities to evaluate opportunities for recycling and waste reduction, reducing energy consumption, conserving water and evaluate new raw materials or replacements for existing raw materials
  • Identifying and implementing EHS training programs for employees
  • Coordinating industrial hygiene surveys, safety reviews, hazard analysis, accident investigations, and analyzing trends in injury/illness experience and hazards identified at the facility
  • Guide and support all location management on injury reporting and timelines to review with Leadership
  • Support Workers Comp management within the divisions to reduce financial impact
  • Provide Workers Comp clearance letters and rates to local branches to meet customer expectations
  • Support Operations in providing EHS documentation for third party accreditation
  • Assist in completing EHS questionnaires for customers
  • Support facilities in meeting respective targets and ensure managers are aware of health & safety targets and obligations

Requirements

  • 3-7 years Occupational Health and Safety experience, H & S Certifications i.e. CSP, OHST, CRSP, CRST and/or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Environmental Health & Safety
  • Demonstrated experience in employee coaching and training
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety legislation in all provincial areas is required
  • Valid driver’s license as travel to and from work sites is required
  • Excellent leadership and training skills
  • Strong time management, planning, organizing and prioritization skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal & communication skills in order to liaise with clients, subcontractors & employees
  • A professional demeanor and a positive attitude
  • Ability to travel up to 25% nationally
  • Bilingual in English and French an asset
