This role requires an excellent understanding of mining operations, technical constraints, logistical issues, as well as strong economic analysis skills. • Develop CAPEX (capital expenditure) and OPEX (operational expenditure) cost estimates for all phases of a major mining project (studies, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning).
  • Structure estimates according to international standards (e.g. AACE Class 5 to Class 1) and according to company and client financial templates.
  • Integrate project delivery strategies (EPCM approach, tendering, subcontracting, modular construction, international sourcing, etc.) into cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with technical disciplines (mining, process, mechanical, electrical, infrastructure, logistics) to gather the technical data needed for cost development.
  • Maintain internal cost databases, escalation factor, market trends and unit prices to ensure representative estimates of reality.
  • Perform sensitivity , cost escalation and risk assessment analyses (contingencies, reserves, uncertainties) to be included in presentations to management or investors.
  • Prepare Basis of Estimate (BOE) reports explaining the methodology used, basic assumptions, data sources and deviations from benchmarks.
  • Actively participate in the preparation of tender documents, ensuring consistency between technical specifications, estimated quantities and proposed prices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating practices through the implementation of templates, automated tools and post-project feedback (lessons learned).
  • Support the project team during negotiations with partners, suppliers or subcontractors by providing comparative data or technical and financial justifications.

Requirements

  • College diploma in mineral technology, civil engineering or estimation or bachelor's degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering or other related discipline.
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (O.I.Q.) or eligible for licensing (if bachelor’s in engineering) - a significant asset for regulated or public projects.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in estimating industrial or major infrastructure projects, including at least 3 years in the mining sector (underground or open-pit).
  • Direct experience in EPCM, modular construction or international projects is a major asset.
  • Good understanding of the economic principles applied to mining projects (CAPEX/OPEX, contingencies, escalation, cost-benefit analysis).
  • Proficiency in specialized software such as advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, macros) and one or more recognized estimation programs (e.g. InEight Estimate, Hard Dollar, Cleopatra, Sage Estimating, etc.).
  • Knowledge of design or modelling software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Deswik, MS Project, Primavera P6) is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English (written communications with international clients and partners).

Abilities

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, mining equipment and supply chains.
  • Keen sense of organization, thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French and English (oral and written) within a multicultural context.
