Lotus Group is proud to partner with our client, a leading industrial services provider with a strong reputation in heavy transport, lifting and rigging, to hire an experienced General Manager to lead operations in the Fort McMurray area.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a service-driven, safety-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced, operationally complex environment. Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President, the General Manager will have full ownership and autonomy over the Fort McMurray branch, managing a workforce of 200–300 employees depending on seasonality. This role will have full accountability for all aspects of business performance in one of the country’s busiest branches, including safety, customer satisfaction, operational performance, and profitability.

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee and optimize all branch functions, including heavy haul, crane operations, maintenance, dispatch, project execution, and administration.
  • Manage a fluctuating workforce of up to 300 union and non-union staff, ensuring productivity, workforce planning, and contract compliance.
  • Drive operational performance across a 24/7 service model in one of Canada’s most logistically complex regions.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations; lead a culture of safety-first decision-making.
  • Build and execute annual business plans, capital budgets, and operational strategies.
  • Drive financial performance through disciplined cost control, pricing strategy, and top-line growth.
  • Achieve measurable success in branch-level KPIs, with performance-based bonuses tied to those results.
  • Build a strong local culture by recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top talent.
  • Foster collaboration across multiple departments and teams, both locally and with other branch leaders across North America.
  • Represent the company in community and industry circles; ensure the branch reflects the company’s values and service standards.
  • Ensure efficient use of fleet, facilities, equipment, and human resources.
  • Build and lead a high-performing leadership team.
  • Lead with calm under pressure and maintain composure across various situations and personalities.
  • Promote servant leadership, accountability, and collaboration across a workforce with diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain a high-capacity leadership presence while balancing day-to-day operations with long-term vision.

Role Requirements

  • Must be local to or willing to relocate to Fort McMurray, with demonstrated experience working in the area.
  • Proven experience in a general or senior operational management role, with P&L responsibility and full business unit ownership.
  • Strong background in mining, transportation, service-based industries, heavy industrial, or equipment operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large unionized and non-unionized teams in a 24/7 industrial environment.
  • Comfortable with occasional international travel (must hold a valid passport).
  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test as a condition of employment.
  • Must be willing to undergo assessments as a condition of the recruitment process.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, inspire, and develop teams with diverse personalities.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strategic, solutions-focused, and people-centric approach.
  • Experience collaborating across business units and working with multinational stakeholders is a strong asset.

Compensation: A competitive base salary with a performance-based bonus tied to branch KPI’s as well as additional comprehensive benefits will be part of the compensation package.
