Recreation Programmer - Aquatics Do you have a passion for aquatics and community recreation? Are you looking for an opportunity to lead, develop, and deliver meaningful aquatic programs that make a difference? The City of Maple Ridge is currently seeking a dynamic and organized Recreation Programmer – Aquatics to join our Parks, Recreation & Culture team.In this key role, you will plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate a wide range of aquatic programs and activities across our indoor aquatic centre and seasonal outdoor pools. You’ll also play a leadership role in training and supporting lifeguards and instructors, promoting community programming, and ensuring operations meet safety, service, and programming standards. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of a post-secondary program in Recreation or a related field.
- Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certificate or National Lifeguard Instructor Certificate.
- Sound related experience in aquatic leadership, instruction, or program coordination.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
- National Lifeguard Pool Certificate
- Lifesaving Instructor Certificate
- Standard First Aid
- CPR Level C with AED Certification
- Pool Operator Level I Certificate
- Swim Instructor Certificate
- Sound knowledge of aquatic programming, recreation service delivery, and lifeguarding instruction.
- Experience leading aquatic programs and supporting aquatic operations including safety and maintenance awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, promote, and evaluate community-based programs.
- Proven ability to recruit, train, and supervise aquatic staff and volunteers.
- Skilled in building strong working relationships with community partners, user groups, and the general public.
- Working knowledge of pool chemistry, filtration, and mechanical systems is an asset.
- Ability to act for a supervisor during short absences and manage aquatic centre operations within defined limits.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with experience in scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
