About the Position
SLSC is looking for a positive, enthusiastic, and customer-service focused person to join our Programs team to support the set-up, tear-down, and execution of all user group bookings, party bookings, registered programs, drop-in programs, and special events in the following facility areas: gym, turf, dry pads, and facility multi-purpose rooms as required. Reporting to the Recreation Programs Supervisor, the Recreation Attendant is also responsible for cleaning and organizing storage rooms, ensuring sports equipment is in good working condition, monitoring drop-in activities, checking wristbands, and enhancing guest experience

Part-time, Hourly, year-round
Schedule/Availability Required: Primarily weekend shifts: 8:30am-5:00pm & 9:00am-5:30pm (15-25 hrs/week)
Start Date: Early July

Specific responsibilities:
  • Setup and teardown of all internal and external facility bookings on the Turf, Gym, Multi-Purpose Room, Pool Classrooms, and other facility rooms as required.
  • Monitor drop-in activities (i.e., Climbing Wall, Bouncers) ensuring participant's safety.
  • Conduct inspections and inventory of recreation equipment and materials (i.e., sports equipment) ensuring equipment is safe and in optimal working condition. Submit work orders if equipment requires maintenance.
  • Greet and welcome bookings i.e., user groups, birthday parties, and other events.
  • Provide support for recreational areas as assigned (i.e., Special Events) including trouble-shooting facility booking issues.
  • Build excellent member and guest relationships, respond to inquiries, provide facility orientation, and distribute information regarding various programs.
  • Check wristbands and manage guest relations issues related to payment and capacity.
  • Present opportunities to guests to further utilize our facility, making relevant suggestions to enhance their visit or make the most of their membership by providing information, hours, costs, other services.
  • Effectively execute and enforce policies and guidelines for activities, with particular attention on higher-risk activities such as the climbing centre or bouncers, monitoring and correcting visitor behavior when needed while enforcing SLSFSC rules at all times.
  • Effectively communicate to colleagues and supervisors on issues related to programs, hazards/safety risks, and guest experience. Use sound judgment to resolve issues in the moment and facilitate necessary follow-up.
  • Perform light custodial and maintenance duties as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be age 15+
  • Experience in a relevant position is an asset – including a proven ability to be proactive, take initiative, and focus on logistics, safety, and customer service.
  • A demonstrated passion for play, sport, arts, culture, fitness, STEM, or another relevant area of interest.
  • A positive, enthusiastic and customer-service focused individual with strong communication skills, the ability to work as a part of a collaborative team and independently, and to take initiative to enhance the guest experience.
  • Dedicated to ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR is a requirement
  • Must have a strong command of the English language (written and verbal)
  • Must be physically able to do the tasks as required. This includes: walking for long periods of time, bending/twisting/squatting, and climbing/kneeling, and the ability to lift/carry objects up to 50 lbs.
