Reporting to the Director, Actuarial Services, the Actuarial Manager will lead key actuarial initiatives and support the strategic development and execution of actuarial services across the organization.
Here is where you will be focusing to ensure your success.
- Responsible for the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual Insurance Contract Liability valuations and contribute to the development of the Appointed Actuary’s Report.
- Responsible for the execution of Financial Condition Testing (FCT) and support ORSA and capital management processes, providing actuarial insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Work cross-functionally on initiatives with Controllership, Modelling, FP&A, and IT, including on enhancements to loss projection models, business planning, and data analytics/RnD related projects.
- Validate and enhance loss projection models and other models related to the actuarial use case, ensuring consistency with professional standards and internal governance frameworks.
- Support the Director, Actuarial Services in interactions with external stakeholders.
- Responsible for solving non-traditional actuarial challenges with a focus on tail risk.
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial sciences, mathematics, statistics, economics or a related field.
- Actively pursuing FSA/FCAS or similar financial professional designation.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive actuarial experience in financial services, preferably including mortgage insurance or related sectors.
- Advanced programming proficiency in R, Python, or equivalent. Strong knowledge of IFRS 17, Canadian regulatory frameworks, and actuarial modeling best practices.
- Developed communication and stakeholder management skills enabling the exchange of sometimes complex information with a non-technical audience both internally and outside the organization.
- Progressive experience with IFRS 17 reserving and predictive modelling preferred.
- Familiar with Canadian regulatory valuation requirements for quarterly and annual reporting.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to complete the actuarial reporting processes accurately using fact-based analysis.
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently. Adaptable and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment by actively participating in department initiatives and engaging in open communication and adaptability to enhance overall department performance.
