The Technical Solutions Engineer is a customer-facing position that supports Precision’s Alpha Technologies product lines by working closely with the Precision’s Alpha Drilling Optimization Engineers, Remote Operating Center, Sales, and Operations teams across Canada, the US, and the Middle East. This is an office-based role in Calgary, with occasional field or shop visits across Alberta and BC.

The candidate should be a self-starter who excels at collaborating with engineering, operations, data science, and sales teams. This position is a project-based role, supporting the development of recommendations for optimized drilling operations, focusing on the entire well construction process. This includes thorough analysis of both on-bottom bottom drilling and flat time operations to identify opportunities to increase overall operational efficiency.

Day In The Life

  • Collaborate with customers to define drilling objectives and challenges to identify specific Alpha technologies to provide value focused solutions.
  • Support customer performance improvement initiatives through engineering analysis and analytics
  • Conduct root cause analysis to determine probable limiting factors for driving overall well construction time and drilling productivity, including failure prevention (stuck pipe, twist-offs, tool failures, etc).
  • Drive new technology implementation by collaborating with sales, operations, and data science teams.
  • Partner with customers and automation teams to deploy new Alpha rig software applications and evaluate performance.
  • Develop and lead training initiatives for engineering peers and operations.

What We Need From You

  • Ability to build a story by drawing meaningful conclusions from large datasets while thinking from a customer’s perspective
  • Lead collaboration across diverse teams including customers, vendors, operations, sales, and engineering peers.
  • Advanced knowledge of drilling operations, including directional drilling, rig control systems, and downhole tools, with special focus on downhole failure analysis.
  • Advanced engineering analysis skills in torque and drag modelling, drill string design, hydraulics, and data analytics tools and approaches
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience or interest in public speaking and authoring technical publications at industry conferences

Education & Experience

5-10 years of related work experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited University

Registered in good standing with APEGA
