Arrow Speed Controls Limited (est. 1980) is the leading Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Integrator in North America. We engineer and assemble speed control equipment for a wide range of electric motor applications. In addition to VFD's, we also do DC drives, soft starts, servo controls and PLC systems.
The Senior Buyer will manage complex procurement processes, requiring advanced experience, knowledge, and professionalism. They will oversee the purchasing of production materials, consumables, general tools, supplies, PPE, and miscellaneous items, with responsibilities subject to portfolio changes based on team resource arrangements. The Senior Buyer is accountable for ensuring continuous supply, reducing lead times, and achieving low total cost while maintaining quality, supplier reliability, and meeting urgent needs. They will analyze market trends, evaluate price quotes, interview suppliers, recommend or select suppliers, schedule deliveries, and ensure accurate order tracking in the system.
What you will be doing:
- Identifies and sources suppliers that align with Arrow Speed Controls’ cost, quality, and delivery goals.
- Issues, schedules, and cancels Purchase Orders (POs) and Purchase Requisitions based on the company’s needs.
- Manages purchase orders, supplier information and purchasing parameters effectively in NetSuite.
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers to improve supply chain efficiency, negotiate favorable terms, and address issues proactively.
- Proactively monitor potential risks in the supply chain, such as disruptions, quality issues, or geopolitical factors, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Monitors inventory levels, using data-driven forecasting to optimize stock availability and minimize excess inventory.
- Leads procurement process improvements focused on cost savings, efficiency, and supplier performance, implementing corrective actions to optimize supply chain operations.
- Leverages ERP systems (NetSuite) and data analytics to optimize purchasing decisions, track orders, and adopt new technologies for automation and process efficiency
- Collaborates with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to align procurement strategies with production schedules, product development timelines, and quality standards.
- Monitors and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) related to supplier performance, on-time delivery, cost savings, and inventory management to ensure procurement objectives are met.
- Instructs suppliers by the most suitable shipping method and schedule requirements with various locations, freight carriers, freight consolidators, and freight forwarders.
- Drive dual sourcing and identify/validate potential new vendors for cost savings, reduced lead time.
- Assists with collecting and preparing data used for the evaluation and selection of suppliers, carriers, and freight forwarders.
- Ensure our customers’ expectations and quality requirements are met through suppliers or sub-tiers suppliers.
- Drives suppliers’ performance in on-time delivery, lead time, cost and quality.
- Validate BOM cost or drive the lowest possible cost reduction for critical projects.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies with open purchase orders.
- Process purchase requisitions and reorder of Kanban items.
- Other duties assigned by the Procurement Manager.
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field in supply chain or operations.
- APICS, CPIM, or PMP certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in supply chain management, preferably in an OEM or automation/electronics environment.
- Direct experience in logistics activities, customs clearance, freight, and optimizing shipping methods.
- Experience with packaging materials, adhesives, general supplies and tools, PPE, and service/maintenance products.
- Proven experience managing and improving Kanban systems or vendor-managed inventory.
- Ability to analyze supply and demand fluctuations and their cost impact from different suppliers.
- Proven ability to prepare and confirm accurate purchase orders, ensuring timely updates and PO date maintenance.
- Skilled in collaborating with suppliers on PO scheduling changes to meet operational requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and collaborative skills for implementing supply chain strategies.
- Proficient in reading technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Knowledge of MRP systems and item parameter setups, including lead time, safety stock, MOQ, and MPQ. Proficient in using ERP systems, preferably Oracle NetSuite.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Professional written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio)
