About The Role
The Rehabilitation Assistant Reports to the Recreation Manager and or designate and assists in established rehabilitative activities and physical therapy programs within our communities for all persons served.
Responsibilities
Include but not limited to:
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Assists residents with established rehabilitative activities such as mobility, strengthening, balance and range of motion exercises to support activities of daily living.
- Demonstrates to residents and assists in the use of exercise equipment such as pulley system, parallel bars, passive trainers and other therapeutic aids/equipment.
- Under the direction of the Occupational or Physical Therapists (O/T, P/T) or designate, conducts individual and group therapeutic physical activities such as; exercise, mental stimulation, and ambulation activities to improve and maintain the functional abilities of identified residents.
- Reports observations of resident’s progress and responses to treatment including concerns and changes of condition to the O/T, P/T or designate.
- Porters residents to and from the fitness center using mechanical aids such as wheelchairs and walkers.
- Sets up and organizes equipment and supplies for related activities; cleans, labels and maintains equipment.
- Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Provides information on residents for care conferences.
- Actively participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
- accident prevention,
- knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
- the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and
- Utilizing infection control procedures
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program.
- Certificates in CPR, First Aid and valid Food Safe Level 1.
- Minimum 2 years recent related experience (long-term care setting preferred).
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Demonstrates creativity, attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to be sensitive to residents needs and provide accurate and detailed information.
- Compliance with all Acts, Regulations, Policies and Protocols relevant to the position.
- Explain requirements in a constructive and helpful manner.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to operate related equipment and work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
