Role:
This role is responsible for the promotion, implementation, and improvement of the facilities Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety programs. Key responsibilities include implementing approved health and safety initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, conducting regular facility and equipment inspections to identify potential hazards, and recommending appropriate preventive measures. The position also involves investigating workplace incidents and occupational illnesses, as well as supporting overall health and wellness initiatives within the facility.

Role:

The position also involves investigating workplace incidents and occupational illnesses, as well as supporting overall health and wellness initiatives within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Foster a culture of safety by promoting shared responsibility and active participation from all employees at all levels within the facility.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the health & safety initiatives within the facility to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform daily on-the-production floor job observations to ensure safety procedures are understood, followed, and continually improved.
- Prepare WorkSafeBC documentation and monitor workplace injury claims.
- Coordinate the activities of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Implement, manage, and continuously improve safety programs.
- Identify hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
- Promote the understanding and the consistent application of EHS procedures (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, etc.) through training, communication, and ongoing reinforcement.
- Develop and recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure timely completion.
- Ensure thorough and timely incident reports and investigations, including the completion and quality review of all the quality of supporting documentation.
- Support the coordination of return-to-work and modified duty programs for injured or recovering employees.
- Maintain and update Job Safety Analysis and assist in the development of safe work practices and procedures.
- Provide support, advice, and guidance on all health and safety matters.
- Prepare and analyze reports and statistical data related to EHS performance and incidents.
- Assist in delivering new employee orientation and ongoing safety training programs.
- Work closely with plant and corporate management to audit and enforce all Environment, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties assigned to support EHS as required.
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University in a related field, or Diploma from a recognized Occupational Health and Safety certification program.
- 3-5 years’ experience administering OHS policies and ensuring legislative compliance.
- Proven experience implementing health and safety programs, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of British Columbia’s Occupational Health and Safety legislation, combined with training in hazard identification, risk assessment, and control.
- Experience managing Return-To-Work and modified work programs.
- Requires regular mobility throughout the production area, including standing, walking, and navigating around equipment and workstations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both unionized employees and management teams.
- A proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and can prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
- A willingness to learn and take the initiative, with a strong focus on achieving exceptional EHS results and driving continual improvement.
- Demonstrates integrity, transparency, and strong work ethic in professional interactions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management.
- Very proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational abilities.
- CRSP designation is an asset.
- Claims Management experience.
- Manufacturing experience and an understanding of process safety.
