In this role, you will report to the Manager, Human Resources and will provide skilled and experienced professional insight and subject matter expertise on matters related to benefits, compensation and Human Resources policies. This position also supports labour relations strategies and decision making by providing in-depth research, data analysis and advisory services related to labour relations, compensation, benefits, employment policy, and workforce trends.

In this role, you will report to the Manager, Human Resources and will provide skilled and experienced professional insight and subject matter expertise on matters related to benefits, compensation and Human Resources policies. This position also supports labour relations strategies and decision making by providing in-depth research, data analysis and advisory services related to labour relations, compensation, benefits, employment policy, and workforce trends.
Duties
- Supports the research and implementation of all areas of compensation and benefits, developing reports and data, as well as leveraging analytics and reporting to inform recommendations.
- Supports the work related to providing recommendations for decisions about employee pay, benefits, rewards and other forms of compensation, by researching best practices for enhancing compensation programs that are aligned to the organization’s strategy and business goals, ensuring external competitiveness.
- Conducts job class evaluations, job classifications, advises on the completion of job descriptions, and assesses organizational budgetary impacts of compensation decisions in collaboration with internal partners and provides oversight of compliance with regulations.
- Ensures that recommendations and compensation practices are in compliance with current legislation (pay equity, human rights, etc.)
- Participates in salary and labour market surveys to determine prevailing pay rates and benefits and conducts and provides analysis on results
- Serve as the liaison for the employee benefits program, including health, dental, pension, disability and leave provisions.
- Participates in the annual review of the benefits programs and acts as supporting and coordinating improvements or changes that benefit the employees and the organization.
- Supports the implementation of any collective agreement language regarding compensation and benefits.
- Supports the ongoing relationship with the Employee & Family Assistance Plan provider, leveraging analytics and reporting to inform recommendations.
- Research and determine policy content, obtaining stakeholder input, support and proper approvals. Ensures policies are organized, purposeful, contain relevant content with clear and concise language, are not in conflict with any other policy or legislation, reflect ethical considerations and meet legal compliance while still enabling flexibility when applicable.
- Identifies policy needs, ensures polices are informed by SAH’s iCcare values, are procedurally fair and consistent, and are enforceable
- Ensures all impacts have been assessed and are identified, highlighting key changes, and risk mitigation measures and developing implementation plans including communication and education, if applicable.
- Trains leaders in the complex usage and understanding of Human Resources and Compensation policies, including relevant collective agreement language.
- Conducts Human Resources research, data collection and analytics on topics including union agreements, case law and arbitration decisions and employment standards.
- Provide expert advice on the interpretation and analysis of labour data and implications for workplace practices.
- Monitor legislative developments and emerging issues in labour law and employment relations.
- Drafts negotiation documents and supports preparation of collective bargaining sessions based on relevant trends and data.
- 3-5 years of recent and relevant experience in Human Resources
- University or College Diploma in Human Resources or a related discipline.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as a team member in a fast paced environment in stressful situations.
- Customer service, interpersonal and telephone skills.
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment.
- Ability to maintain successful working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner.
- Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
- Knowledge and understanding of Human Resources legislation and pay equity.
- Knowledge and understanding of job evaluation systems and job classifications
- Ability to interpret collective agreement language.
- Problem-solving, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and anticipate obstacles / next steps.
- Strong time management skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience conducting business interviews and leading client presentations, workshops and meetings.
- Communication skills including large group facilitation experience.
- Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s Standards of Performance and iCcare values.
