Plains is looking for an Operations Technician to work for a term of approximately 6 months at our Empress Straddle Facility located 100 km north of Medicine Hat. These assets are some of the largest gas processing facilities in North America. In this role, you will provide support to Operations and Maintenance, as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures.

Residency within 120 km of the Empress facilities is a condition of employment, and you must be able to work a regular 12-hour shift rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Operating, maintaining, and / or repairing equipment and systems including equipment startup, shutdown and isolation
  • Working effectively in a team environment to monitor, log, resolve, and escalate operational and safety issues
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, policies, procedures, and site-specific training
  • Maintaining appropriate records and documents and submitting reports as required
  • Maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and following prescribed safety regulations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certification required
  • Previous experience in a gas plant or related operations environment preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and a team member, with minimal supervision
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong computer and problem-solving skills
  • Motivated, with a willingness to advance to greater challenges
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Residence within 120 km of the Empress Facility
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing
  • Compliance with the Company’s requirement to be clean shaven to ensure proper fit of emergency PPE
