JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, Damage Prevention, the Senior Locator/Locate Lead is responsible for completing buried facility locates (i.e. electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, telephone lines and more), documenting and mapping buried facility locations with accuracy and precision, while adhering to strict company and client safety protocols, and procedures. Locate Leads act as mentors and provide guidance to more junior locators in the field. This role will be working in the Edmonton and surrounding areas.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret and analyze site plans, area maps, and blueprints to accurately determine the location of underground utilities such as high-voltage electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, telephone, and other communications lines.

  • Utilize maps, blueprints, computer databases, and location equipment to identify conduits; ensure accurate updates to records based on field findings.

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior locators in the field.

  • Mark and document buried utility locations utilizing line locator equipment, to ensure precise utility detection.

  • Provide clear, accurate documentation and sketches with measurements and clear, concise field notes.

  • Participate in all safety meetings, attend required training, health and safety sessions, and other related educational courses.

  • Operate company vehicles safely.

  • Maintain and store locating equipment properly, ensuring it is cleaned and in good working condition.

  • Strictly follow health and safety protocols, including completing daily safety reports and forms.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 1 - 2 years of experience in underground line/facility locating an asset

  • High school graduate diploma

  • Utility Advanced Line Locating Certification (PAL, CAPULC, or equivalent) an asset

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License (with a clean 5-year abstract)

  • Ability to read and understand maps and drawings

  • Knowledge of Trimble GPS and Total Station Equipment an asset

  • CSTS, OSSA/BSO, First Aid and H2S Alive Safety Certification

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong computer skills

  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines

  • Detail oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy and care with a priority on safety

  • Ability to handle stressful situations with composure

  • Strong work ethic and proven reliability

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Proven ability to learn, take direction and accept coaching feedback


WORK CONDITIONS

The position works in the field year-round, and therefore it requires an individual who is comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and who is physically fit.
